I ran into the very same problem except that I had an on-board video card. I searched and concluded the SIS 530 will not support 3D even with the Direct X 8.1 upgrade. Had to by a PCI nVidia TNT2 to make it work. At least I know it supports 3D.

I also want to share some of my experiences with SIS 530. I have AMD K6/2 processor on this motherboard. Unfortunately, when i bought this system, i did not have enough knowledge about computers. This motherboard does not support voice chat as it has a built in half duplex sound card. To remove this problem, i had to purchase Creative Vibra 128 sound card. But there is still a problem that sound breaks while voice chatting. In addition, my system has very small free system resources i.e. 60% to 75%. Resultantly, speed is slow. I have heard that free system resources must be upto 85 - 90% for best performance.
Would someone like to advise me to remove these problems escpecially (broken voice during voice chat)
Response awaited.

I have a motherboard GB-5SMM with built in sis 530 and ESS SOLO 1. If i install the version 1.03 of the drivers for sis 530 I have lots of problems with 3d games, mostly, it don't work at all, if i install the version 1.08 of the driver (I have directx 8.1) I simply don't have direct 3d at all. And I don't mention the sound problem, cracks and everything. This motherboard is a big crap, and sis 530 is probably the biggest crap ever. Was better if they went to play golf instead of creating that junk.

My Sis 530 is with the 1.08 driver and with Direct X 8.1, it says that I dont have 3D accelerator, i'll try get an earlier version of direct X, or an earlier version of sis530, but, someone could say where I could get those drivers? It's too dificult to find outdated drivers.

(YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REINSTALL YOUR OS)

Ok. I've been reading around different forums for this and here is what I have gathered.

The SiS530 does NOT support directx 8.1
I am still in the process of installing the older SiS530 driver (i'm at work now), I'm told version 1.05.

What will this accomplish?

By installing version 1.05, you are able to run your video card while directx 8.1 is installed (and run it normally)

However, I do not think that you will be able to play games that require directx 8.1, as that the older driver does not understand directx protocol.

If, after I install the older driver, I either unable to play 8.1 games or my graphics card is still not working right, I will then go to the following site:

http://www.directxbuster.de/index_e.html#download

this website contains a program that will allow you to remove a version of directx, like 8.1. Then you can install a version of directx that will allow you to play the games you were playing before you got in this awful mess with dx 8.1

Personally, I would just drop the 35 bucks for a new video card that has just as much punch or more than the sis530.

Good luck.. I'll post if I find out more.

I have 4 nos of PCs with SIS 530 motherboard and all having AMD K6-2 (500 Mhz) processors and Windows 98 as O/S installed. I use these PC for surfing the net. The problem I face during surfing is that of system hanging of the system. When i go to the Bios setup and see that the temperature is around 60 deg. and at that time the system starts hanging, gives fatal errors etc.
Do any one of you have the solution to these problems then please mail me.
Regards,
Rajib
