Hi, I have installed Windows XP SP2; my default windows selected a general default driver. When I go to the display screen properties to manually select a driver, the properties button is greyed out. Any suggestion on how I could by pass that, thank-you!!

Hi Gamer126,
Thanks for replying!!

I might have a stupid question, I search in the BIOS, I looked in the motherboard, I have verified in the properties of the device manager and I could not find the name of my graphics card!!

Do you have any suggestions where I could find out the brand of my graphics card? Thanks again Gamer,

Mario

Try this, im not sure if it will work or not as the drivers arnt installed but its worth a shot.

Click "Start."

On the "Start" menu, click "Run."
In the "Open" box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks) , and then click "OK."

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. Click the "Display" tab.

On the "Display" tab, information about your graphics card is shown in the "Device" section. You can see the name of your card, as well as how much video memory it has.

Also, do you have any cds that came with the computer or any stickers on the case?

Hi Gamer,

Thanks for the info, this is good to know!!!
Here is what I got after performing your instructions in the display window:

****Device****:
Device = N/A
Name = N/A
Constructor = N/A
Type processor = N/A
Type of converter (CNA)
Total memory approx. = N/A
Actual display 640 x 480 (16bit) (1hz)

****Drivers****:
Principal Pilot = vga.dll
Version = 5.01.2600.0000
WHQL signed = yes
mini VDD = N/A
DDI = unknown

Can it be possible that there is not graphics card???

For your other question, no there are no CDs that came with the pc and no stickers besides the MS key for windows.

This PC belongs to my brother who bought it in a recycle store that has the responsibility to collect all PCs over 3 yrs old from different companies. Then they format the HD and sell for a cheap price.

Too resume, I assume that the drivers for the graphics card are not installed and therefore the system does not allow me to have access to the properties button and change the colors from 16 to 32 bit. Is that correct?

Well Gamer, I want you to know that your help was highly appriciated on my side.

Thank-you again and best regards,
Mario

Yes thats right about the drivers. But all computers have a graphics card, yours would be an onboard one. So we need to find out the motherboard manufacturer and model.

When the computer is booting up, it should show somewhere on the screen the model number or manufacturer name, maybe both, if you think you can see it, press pause on your keyboard and write it down. Then we can find your drivers.

Glad I'm helping, its no problem.

Hi Gamer,

I followed your instructions, however I was not able too retrieve the information requested. I opened the casing to find the model and manufacture of the MB but without success!! I then went to www.dell.com and entered my service tag number, clicked on the download drivers and downloaded the graphics driver for this specific pc ….. that did the trick :)

P.S. I was about to give up, but because of you Gamer everything is working very well now :) (You are good)

A Million thanks to you my friend!!

My Regards,
Mario from Montreal!!!
