Comment: Need a little help here. Got a Samsung SD-612 DVD-ROM and all of a sudden it’s not recognizing DVDs. It does fine for music and software CDs, but when you insert a DVD it just says “No disc in drive”. Even “Windows Explorer” does not recognize a DVD is in the drive! I’ve tried reinstalling DVD-ROM drivers and going into My Computer/System/CDROM and deleting the CD so it’ll find it again when I reboot. Was working fine till a couple of days ago. Any suggestions?

Reply: (edit)I think the problem comes from the fact that the drive's lens gets dirty. I have the same drive and mine stopped reading most of my CD-Rs. Now I'm stuck with putting the CDs onto my friends computer and read them off of the network. I was told that it could be dirt stuck onto the lens. Yet, it does read all of my original CDs (e.g. driver CD that came with my hardware). I do not know if the DVD-ROM uses separate lenses to read DVDs and CDs, but that if that's the case, then all i can say is that you need a dvd cleaner ( a DVD with little brushes attached that should clean the lens.
