Comment:
I have a Ricoh DVD+RW/+R MP5240A DVD burner ( About four months old ) and it has suddenly stopped reading CD and DVD disks. The indicator light just flickers. The Device Manager says the device is working properly. I updated the driver using the MS Wizard and it installed a Microsoft one dated 01/07/2001. The Ricoh manual says not to use the MS driver, but I can't find the original one now. I found a Ricoh Web page and downloaded and installed the latest Firmware Flash file. My Mother Board is a SOLTEK SL-KT400-C. The Driver Detective says I have the wrong IDE driver installed.
How do I find the correct driver?

Hi

Device drive info from Ricoh

Don't worry about Driver Detective.

Try a cd lens cleaner - it sounds like a dirty lens. (cd lens cleaner - a cd with a couple of rows of fine hairs which you insert into the drive)

Hi, anenfan,

Thank you for your suggestions.

I have just bought a DVD lens cleaner ( The dry type )but it didn't fix my problem. A good suggestion, though. According to that link you gave me the unit should work with the Windows Driver as no extra drivers are supplied.

Ted.

Hi

Try reseating the ide cable connections from the motherboard to the dvd. Reseat the power connection as well. (If you haven't done this already.)

Probably wouldn't hurt to test with another ide cable - just in case.

It could be that the dvd device is playing up and you will need to have it replaced while it is still under warrenty.

Hi, anenefan,

I reseated the IDE cable, but no joy. I haven't tried a new one yet, though.

Thanks again for your help.
