I just had a CATASTROPHIC hard disk failure and have been working for the last five hours to get my main disk to boot to no avail. Fortunately, I have an automatic backup system in place and I am able to boot from the back-up hard drive with no problem. But I lost all my work since my last back-up.
The system diagnostics tell me I need to reinstall a corrupted driver called "isapnp.sys" from the Windows 2000 boot CD. The only problem is that I cannot get my computer to boot from the CDROM drive, even after changing the boot sequence in CMOS. I am stumped. Any suggestions?
Here is the full address of the corrupted file that is causing the problem:
WINNT\System32\drivers\isapnp.sys
I need to repair this driver on my now unbootable source hard drive. Can anyone tell me how to do this or offer any assistance?
Any help anyone could give me in fixing my hard drive/software problem would be deeply appreciated. For example, can anyone tell me how do boot from the Windows 2000 CD? My computer boots from the remnants of the corrupted Windows 2000 on my hard drive no matter what I do and then CRASHES mid-boot because of the corrupted isapnp.sys driver.
I did manage to get a floppy disk reinstall going on WIndows 2000, but a total reinstall would wipe out my system and set me back even farther. What I need to do is just get Windows 2000 open and then reinstall the isapnp.sys driver without a total system reinstall. Is this possible? I am also afraid a total reinstall would wipe out my system connection to the backup drive that contains all my backed-up files---that would be devastating. So, I need to reboot Windows 2000 and just fix that corrupted driver so I can restart, if possible. I cannot risk a toital Windows reinstall with my configuration or I may lose everything!! I need help fast and am open to any suggestions anyone might have. I would also be willing to pay for reliable professional assistance in solving this problem. Thanks,
Dario
