Hi, i recently reformatted my harddrive without thinking about the drivers. Now the computer wont play any sound, when on winamp it states i have a bad direct sound driver and DXdiag says i have no sound driver.

im not sure what sound installments i have, when i go into device manager, one of the listed is an MPU-401 compatible midi device. Is that what i need drivers for?.. ( although it says it already has drivers)

Thanks loads
~Sam

I found it!
I had recently reformatted the HD and installed XP Pro w/SP2 resulting in NO SOUND from onboard C-Media AC97 which uses CMI8738 xp driver w/no conflicts. The fix was to disable mobo onchip USB in the BIOS.
...go figure!
