hi, how do i install the realtek ac97 audio update...do i just double click the file or is there something else i should do?

From Microsoft Update?? Just download the file and it will install itself!

i manually downloaded it from the realtek website and now i have the wdm_a381 file...

yazzz, The pdf file at the link below has the installation instructions.

Realtek AC 97 ver A3.81 Driver Installation Instructions

Note: If you're not having any problems now why bother updating the drivers.

There is a real easy way go to Major Geeks web site and on the left side click drivers, it takes you to drivers go to almost the end of the page it shows Realtek '97 drivers download and its a exe file all you have to do is download and click it, that is the easiest driver to install and it will also update your old one to the new one.
