Hi, I have a problem I hope someone can help me with.
I recently upgraded my GFX card from a 3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 agp tv-out to a Geforce 2 MX400 64Mb agp tv-out. After installing the drivers and connecting to my television I found that the picture I get on the screen is very pale if not b/w. Certainly not up to the standard of the previously clear picture I obtained from the Voodoo card. I've checked all of the output formats ie. NTSC, PAL etc to no avail. The output is S-Video, and the input on the tv is also S-Video. I just had a thought it may be the refresh rate too high so I'll check that tonight, otherwise could it possibly be a driver problem? As far as I know I've not installed the Detonator drivers as I thought they were solely for XP. I'm running WIN98SE on an Athlon 1.2Gb with 256 Mb DDR RAM.Help please.
Pete

I'm having the same problem.... if you have a solution, can you please mail me?! thanks a lot!

i am having exactly the same problem as well- seems we got screwed!!
could anyone e-mail me as well if they find a solution to this problem..

Hi there,
I had the same problem with my GeForce4 MX440 but I think I solved it.
I changed the video output format from S-Video to Auto-select (although I think it auto-selects Composite Video Out).
I have connected my card with an S-Video to SCART cable directly to my tv. Colors and clarity are good, but I get lines on the screen. It's probably something to do with the tv's frequency, but I can't seem to be able to change it. Does anyone know how to do that? I used all PAL and NTSC formats available but nothing helped.
Cheers.

I found that when it comes to s-video on
tv's the euipment has to be solely tv
compatible.
Try using an S-video to scart adapter and
connect the scart to your VCR and view
your computer that way.
For some reason most video's can hack the
signal from a computer.
I can't go near my telly unfortunately because I get a HUMMM from the tv ariel,
anyone got any solutions for this prob??

I have a Geforce 2 mx400 with s-video out. Every time i use the video out i have lines on the tv. It seems like the same problem you guys are having. I've tried different cables, refresh rates, the whole bit...still no luck. Any suggestoins would be greatly appreciated.

Well, interestingly enough I can't get any output to the TV.
I am running W2K with Detonator drivers. I have Geforce 2 MX400. The card comes with an S-Video to S-Video/Composite cable, which I use. I then plug the composite using an RCA to my SCART adapter, but no luck. It seems the drivers are detecting the TV properly, however no picture can be seen.
Do I have to use TvinView or not (I've tried both ways)? I've also tried using TVTool. I am not getting a picture at all. Anything I am forgetting?
Thanks.

Hmm.. got it working, had to plug it to my TV's 2nd SCART-in. Weird, 1st one worked fine with my Matrox card.
Go figure ;)

same problem, black and white screen =( !! i will had to return to mi voodoo 3 3000.

i work with the TV-OUT so i dont have much time to prouve it... please if someone find a solution mail me! :D

To solve the problems with the lines on the TV screen, you will have to unplug your antennae or cable from the TV while the GeGorce graphics card is connected.

I have a geforce3 ti200
just bought a s-video to scart. I plug it in but no luck. I can't even choose tv as an option in setup on the pc! only analog screen
does anybody know why?
what am I doing wrong

I had the same problem with black/white on TV-OUT for some time. I'm in Europe, but when I was using the NTSC format, it works perfect. So, forgett about PAL/SECAM, try with NTSC and I hope you'll see the colors...

IF YOU ARE GETTING THE GRAY TV SCREEN - YOU CAN CORRECT THE PROBLEM BY USING AN ADAPTER CABLE(S-VIDEO TO RCA JACK ADAPTER). S-VIDEO PLUGS INTO GRAPHICS CARD AND RCA PLUGS INTO TV MONITOR PORT. I USED AN ADAPTER CABLE THAT CAME WITH MY CREATIVE DIGITAL VCR BUT YOU CAN BUY THE ADAPTER AT RADIO SHACK.
PROBLEM SOLVED! P.S. I AM NOT A COMPUTER GEEK BUT IT WORKED WELL. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT A SCART IS.

i have the same problems with my geforce mx 40 with tv-out. I allways have a b/w pictures. I am connect to my tv with s-video cabel.
Please help!

i have a gforce2(gfarce)mx400 which i have connected to my tv by svideo. i first connected with a short(1m) cable which worked fine but when i used the 10m cable it only displays in b/w; which leads me to belive that it is an attenuation problem does any of you superstars out there know the natural length of the signal so i can shorten my cable to the right length and save me a lot of time using trial and error.

I have problem, well it is not real problem but I heard that there is program or driver that can remove that stupid frame from my tv and put the picture on full screen when I use tv out. My card is G-force 3 an OS is Win 2000. Pls help!!!!

I'm also having problems with tv out (no picture at all)... I've been checking a lot of sources and this is what i have so far discovered (please correct me if i am wrong with any of this)...
1.
Scart sockets are big plugs (21pins) that can transmit different information depending on what they are used on... they can transmit video either as composite video or as three seperate coulours. They can also transmit, but they cannot transmit s-video, so any scart converter that you can plug s-video into the back of would need to convert that signal to composite inside the plug. Apparently quite a few do not do this and the result is black and white picture.2.
I've also seen that there are internet shops that advertise scart connectors which specifically solve this problem.3. I've heard that cable length could be a problem. On gainward's web page they recommend a maximm cable length of 2m. I really need 10m (already bought a 10m cable) and i have read maybe i need a signal booster!
4. I read that using the chip manufacturer's driver (eg nvidias) instead of the card manufacturer's can harm the tv out function.
Any comments? I've not solved my problem yet but hopefully this can help some others...
this is my system...
Gainward Gforce 4 MX 440 running on windows XP pro. The card has s-video out. My TV has a scart input and an antenna input.
I'm using an s-video cable from the card, to a s-video/scart adapter stuck in the tv. Also tried s-video to composite adapter plugged in the card and composite/scart adapter plugged into the tv, but still nothing!)Please someone tell me there is an easy solution.. it's all become a hassle and more and more expensive buying new cables/ converters etc.

ADDITION TO LAST POST:
sorry, in 2nd paragraph I meant to say
"they can transmit video either as composite video or as three seperate colours. They can also transmit AUDIO SIGNALS, but they cannot transmit s-video"
Sounded a bit crazy with "AUDIO SIGNALS" missing

To Response Number 17I also have the "Frame" Problem.
It appears to me to be a design Fault in all GeForce drivers for TV-out.I have a 19-year old TV and have noticed that it clips all the sides off regular TV. I've also noticed that the drivers are able to move the "Framed" output to any corner of the display. From this I conclude that my card dose transmit the full image to the tv but some driver conversion along the way seams to be altering the picture size, Possibly for compatability.
Sorry, this is not a solution but it dose give more detail to someone else who may be able to help.

Hi Again,
Well I figured a way around for my last Responce (20) and To Response Number 17.
What I have found out is that it Totally IS a driver issue, to which nvidia have no fix for. but on the plus side, someone else has made a program to "Help"
View http://tvtool.info/index_e.htmthey don't solve this problem very smothly, but using their software allows you to get rid of the "Frame" fault and view everything full screen but only have eather Dual VIEW or TV/Monitor ONLY modes....
I've found that I am able to use the Fullscreen mode in dual view and both TV and Monitor are same resolution.
Unfortunally this is a shareware program and you only get 10 minuets running with the DEMO program. 6.0e BETA works best for me.

I just installed the card , bought a 10m rca cable plugged into tv and it works fine perfect picture. I also have a 10m headphone extension that goes into a rca plug for sound through tv that works fine to. I watch a movies the other night . played a 2 hour movie without a skip in sound or picture. The next day plug cables in again nothing worked no picture on both my tvs???? wtf
reinstalled drivers 3 times no pictures . Cable length is not a problem.
so go figure

Same card...Same probs...
Someone help me out...EMAIL ME RESPONSES AND I WILL HELP YOU TOO...RRMANIAC@HOTMAIL.COMSo here go my tries..
I have had the same probs as all you guys at some point or another initially i had the problem with the bw picture, the frames and the lines...The bw can be corrected by selecting auto in the properties instead of specifying ntsc. Right now I'm using an svideo to rca connector for my pc, both are gold plated and are roughly 24feet in distance (about 8m). Try not to have any cables mixed with the connectors (antena, or even 2 cables connected together to make a long one, try getting 1 full cable instead)Continuing...I still have the wide picture effect, I could centralize it though by changing my resolution to 800x600..don't know how to do it fullscreen though.
After watching movies for about 2 days and in dual view, with no probs. I disconnected the cables and reconected them...NO PICTURE. Tried eveything in the properties, nothing worked. The driver I had installed was an updated version of the one that came in the manufacturer's cd, I got it a while back. It had the twinview option, where I could select the clone option, the it autodectected my tv, which worked initially. I donwloaded then nvidias latest detonator package, still no picture. The driver has an nview option instead and it has a "force video on 2nd display" or something option, which didnt work.
Then I installed the manufacturers newest drivers, the properties changed a bit, but still I had no picture, no detection of the tv as another display, nor I could check it in the options.
So I decided to install the original cd's drivers and winfast...everything as it was in the beginning. The tabs changed a bit, the twinview and output properties where in different tabs. I checked the clone option and applied, NO PICTURE...this eventually took me to a black monitor screen, safe mode, reinstalling the card as nothing worked, after numerous restarts....I could see picture in my monitor again...nothing yet in my tv.
I NEED HELP
PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU FIND ANYTHING OUT...

I had the same b/w problem, I had the problem because I used an unshielded cable for S-video. Now I'm using a coaxial cable with at one side the s-video plug and at the other a video plug into my scart adaptor and my colors are perfect!
good luck with the problem
grtz
Tim

I want to connect my computer with the TV to watch DVD. What will I do? I have a cable (10m) with s-video to scart.
I get the PC screen on my TV for 10 seconds and than it's gone....
What is going wrong and who can help me to solve the problem???
I sthe length of the cable a problem, has it something to do with the hz of my TV?

Same b/w problem here. My Geforce 2 Mx400 has an rca and svideo jack on it. Im using a 5 meter rca to rca gold plated cable because my tv only has a rca jack. Tried setting the video output format to 'Composite Video format' as some people on this forum suggested. On one occation I got an extremely brief flash of color and it went back to b/w. Maybe it was my imagination.
Sounds as if the svideo jack on the card is going to do the same thing.
Any help will do guys. Thanx

addition to my previous post. Also read somwhere that the tv's got to support s-vhs. Dont know if mine does so i put the rca cable thru my vcr. But still b/w. BUT when recording to tape and playing back the tape I GET COLOR?!!! WTF? What does all this mean i ass u?
