Hello

I have installed the latest driver for my Gforce2 GTS/Geforce Pro graphics card.

After installation windows would not restart. I had to go into safe mode. Windows now starts but only with 16 colours. I can't change the colours or the resolution.

The graphics card is not recognised in device manager and not detected when I try to install new hardware. I have tried re installing the old driver 45.23 but this does not help. From control panel I then de installed the NVidia software and tried again but no luck.

Now the control panel under add/remove software does not even show the software.

I noticed in device manager that the PCI VGA display adapter has a yellow mark on it which I can't fix. Is there some conflict with devices maybe..I have no clue.

Can anyone help me out with this? I thought maybe I should download some updates for the Viatech mother board but I don't really know what I'm doing, or if this would even help.

Any pointers would be geatly appreciated.

Firstly is the yellow mark a?,!,or both?

If it is a ? this means that the hradware is unknown or there are no drivers installed.

If it is ! then you have a conflict happening.

with both that should be obviuos after what has been said previously.

iether way the easiest way out for you now is to do a system restore if possible.

if not, then go into device manager right click on the video adapter and uninstall.
when you have done that reboot and install the drivers from your motherboard disk.
reeboot.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

I tried what you suggested but it didn't work.

In fact the PCI Host Bridge now has a red cross in device manager.

When I try to install the graphics card driver in control panel/hardware, I get a message saying something like "device installation stopped, not all data copied that are needed for the driver" (my operating system is in German, but I think that's a rough translation).

This same message also appears when I try and install the USB controller, which has also developed a problem.

I'm thinking something more fundamental is wrong as I can't re install any drivers at all.

Unfortunately I can't reinstall Windows as I don't have the disk to hand.

Is this situation hopeless? Do I have to go and buy XP?

Hi again

Tried system restore but it failed due to 2001 date bug (I did not have patch). Any other possible options?
