I had to go back to Factory defaults today because my computer would only boot in safe mode. Now after I get everything reinstalled I can't use my PNY SmartMedia card reader for my Olympus camera. I installed the drivers for it but when I put the reader into the USB port on the front of the computer the drive doesn't show up in Explorer, nothing happens. I also have an external Zip drive that is connected and has always been connected.

I checked the devices in the System control panel and under "other" there is an error about the driver, but I thought that the USB area was where this device would show up. I tried to redo the drivers but no luck. All was working fine before I did the reinstall. I rebooted the computer with the reader in the USB port and went through the whole found new hardware wizard but when it came to load the driver I couln't find the one I needed, even with the readers disk in the cd drive.

The software that came with the reader has two drivers that you can install, one is a CF driver and the other is an SM driver, I did them both but still no luck. Not sure what else to do. I even tried the USB ports on the back of the computer and no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

This web page may be of some use - Win98 and USB do not always go together as you might expect!
