PCI serial controller driver solution
Background
I suddenly lost my modem driver – don’t ask me why. In my specific case it was an Aztech Systems PCI modem type MDP3858V-E. It all resulted in the impossibility to install the modem and allocate the correct gate. For four days I tried every path to find a solution. But in vain. There was the matter of if the PCI serial controller itself needed a driver – which I couldn’t understand - or if the motherboard bios in some way or the other were involved. Another obstacle was the attitude of our Packard Bell agency in Sweden. They charge 1 US$ per minute for a telephone call just for asking where to turn! All of these experiences were shown to be unnecessary. Here is the simple solution.Solution
Be very accurate in finding the right site for downloading your longed-for driver. Because it is just the modem driver it all is about! First I simply tried to search for modem type “MDP3858V-E”. That was shown to be a trap. I got just one answer – to an old Aztech site, which was a complete wrong track. As a Packard Bell computer owner I automatically turned to their site - which was idiotic. When I finally came to the Aztech Systems site I found a sort of universal driver i.e. a driver for a lot of modems in the same family.
· After downloading the driver on another computer into a diskette I extracted it to C:\temp as disk1 and 2 on my faulty computer.
· I then deleted the PCI serial controller under My computer under Properties
· I restarted the computer and got pop up signs telling me that Windows had found a new hardware called PCI serial controller and that Windows awaited a driver installation.
· Then I just followed the usual instructions how to install the driver to be fetched in the c:\temp\disk1 and SUCCESS! Everything automatically worked again. What a relief!

Nice one Erik...
After 14 hours trying,
I finally sorted my modem after reading you post...
Would you beleive that the damn drivers wouldn't install because the folders they were in were not called DISK1...!!!
Modems eh....who'd 'ave 'em!!
Thanks,
ROB.
