Dear Sirs,Please help. At the moment I am running windows 98 operating system however, I have not got any sound anymore from my computer. Windows has detected the above audio device ie PCI Multimedia Audio Device. Unfortunately there is no device driver on the windows 98 disc. The sound used to work but I have since re-installed the software and it no longer works. I have used all of the discs supplied by the manufacturer and there wasn't a seperate disc for a sound card. Please could you tell me if there is a web site that I could visit to download a correct driver for this device.

You need to find the make and model before you can get the driver's for it.
You need to open the base unit and have a look inside for the sound card make and model then go to the maker's web site and check there.
I hope this help's.

Ray Clarke,
If you have a Brand Name PC, post its *Make* and *Model*. This information is usually displayed somewhere on its Chassis. Someone my be able to help you with that information.

i've got exactly the same problem. i contacted dell. i know i've got the creative soundblaster card and they sent me the sb9x driver for it. But it crashes in the middle of the setup process. meanwhile the devices listed is pci multimedia device. it's driving me nuts. is this something to do with the chipset utility? i wish i knew what all this stuff was then it might be blindingly obvious to notice i've overlooked something.

I am a similar problem. I had to downgrade OS from Windows ME to Windows 98 in the process I have lost my soundcard. I have a PCI multimedia device and Compaq told me I have an Integrated soundmax digital audio card. I can't find anything to work for me. I have tried both windows, compaq, and even trying to load the info from my compaq recovery cd. It is very frustrating!

hello i have the same problem. there is an even more serious problem: my mother will kill me if i try to take apart this computer. is there a site that has a detection utility that can detect what sort of sound card i have? or is there a site where it can try many different device drivers until the correct one is found? please help

I had the same problem. I was lucky and found the Creative software that had the version listed. I was able to download a new driver from the Creative website.

I am having trouble with my HSP56 micromodem... i keep getting this error "Error 630: The computer is not receiving a response from the modem. Check that the modem is plugged in, and if necessary, turn the modem off, and then turn it back on". That's all good however I have an internal modem. At the same time i'm getting these unknown PCI device drivers which I can't install... PCI Multimedia Audio Device, PCI Ethernet Controller and PCI Communication Device. I think this may be the cause of my problem, but i'm not shure. Can anyone shed some light on it?

I too have the same problem of pci multimedia audio device driver and coudn't get any where-when i opened up the cabinet i found c3dx,hsp56 and hrtf audio com with cmi8738/pci---the system is detecting it as pci m a device but i didn't get the drivers from any where kindly help me.
