Windows is asking to install this driver everytime I boot up ever since I installed a second hard drive in my system. Ive looked everywhere on the windoze CD. The motherboard is an Asus A7V 133. This should be on the motherboards driver disk? Im about to throw up my hands in defeat. Anyone offer advice on how to go about tracking this one down?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

The 4 in 1 drivers come with a lot of motherboards. they install the drivers for the motherboard which includes the hard drive controllers. Which devices show problems in device manager? Have you tried the Asus website for the drivers for that motherboard?

Therein lies my problem. No devices show problems on the device manager. The "PCI Mass Storage Controller" doesnt show up. Ive tried the asus website and found nothing that wasnt available on my MB software disk. But every time it comes up when I reboot, I just cancel the driver installation. I guess my next step is to email the Asus tech support and hope they get back to me unless you can think of anywhere else to try.

You will find that this is the Promise ATA100 controller.
If you are not using ATA100 drives you can disable this in the bios.
I no longer have this board so I am relying on my memory.
You can download the latest Promise driver from the Asus website.

I meant to say if you are not using the ata100 harddrives on the ata100 controllers.
If you are using the ata100 controllers to boot into windows you have to alter the boot sequence in the bios.
You can still use these controllers for your hard drives but they will be running at ata66

My father has the same problem but I think I know what caused it. I installed the operating system(Win 98) on his hard drive while I had the hard drive slaved to another computer with a totally different motherboard. I am going to wipe it and start over but this time while connected to his motherboard. Just thought I would mention it just in case.

i have the asus A7V 133 motherboard also, and had the same problem. this is what i did:
1. Go to device manager
2. go to pci mass storage listed under "other devices"
3. under the general tab, click on install driver
4. follow the instructions to re-install driver. (the driver location is in the asus cd in the PROMISE folder. the path is:
{cd-rom driver} :\Promise\Ata100\Win95-98

if for some odd reason the path does not work, just do the browse button and locate the "promise" folder, then click "ata 100", then click "win95-98"
let me know how this works.............

I have a PCI Mass Storage Controller problem too, .. but it is a CUV4X Asus motherboard and windows 98SE. In device manager, I have the controller listed TWICE under Other Devices ... each w/ a ? and a !. If I delete them, on next boot, they install again. If I update any one of them, nothing is found on the Asus CD ... anywhere ... not under the Promise folder even. I have spent DAYS and NIGHTS trying to find a driver. The Asus website has TONS of possibilities, ...poorly presented, ... and I have tried everything that seems even remotely like what would do the trick.

System seems to run fine, .. and as long as these are there, hardware wiz does not run on boot, but delete 'em, .. and it does, and gives 'em back. I know this is not right. I would SURE like to resolve this. I emailed Asus support ... no response. If anyone has a clue, ... I would appreciate an email ... cause I found this site on Google and don't know if it notifies or not. THANX!!!! JB

The answer could have quite easily been found if you've just used Google put this line on search:
"pci mass storage" driver
The problem seems to be solved for most of you already, but just keep the too-simple-sounding -answer Google in your mind if you need a driver or particularly anything. ;)

Just a note to tell you i'm also using an AMD processor, and experienced the same problems.
I got an Abit KT-1.32M board.
I just installed the driver on the Abit CD enclosed in the box, and thank god everything works perfectly now.
I guess 'having problems' is a price to pay if you are to save money on your computer (by not buying overpriced Intel stuff).

Same prob here with A7V motherboard. I Also was led to believe it was the ultra100 so I downloaded the drivers from Promise, which includes multiple OS's. I'm using ME and those drivers are included. The PCI Mass Storage Controller shows up in the other section in the device manager, so I tried reinstalling the driver...browsed to the correct folder, and it's not wanting to see it there. I've tried both ME and 95/98 sets of drivers. Each time it just says no drivers were found. I don't have the original ASUS system CD since I bought my PC from a friend.

AMD Athlon 900
A7V MB

My problem is that the computer runs very slow and locks up. In the device manager, I find the PCI Mass Storage Controller under Other Devices. It has a large question mark over it and a yellow and black exclamation mark over the question mark. No other entry in the device manager looks like this. When I check properties, it says that no driver is installed. I've tried reinstalling the driver from the hard disc and the Windows 98 CD-ROM without success. This problem may have coincided with installation of a SIIG USB 2.0 PCI card, but I'm not sure. At any rate, the floppy that contains the driver for the SIIG PCI card does not have a driver for the Mass Storage Controller. The SIIG card is working fine. The manufacturer and other properties of the Mass Storage Controller is not specified. Under the Performance tab of the System Properties display, I get the messages "Compatibility mode paging reduces overall system performance" and "Drive C is using MS-DOS compatibility mode filing system" I assume these messages are related to lack of the proper driver. At least I can't find another cause.

What does this driver do? Can I remove it without detrimental effect. My computer is a Dell Dimension XPS T600 with a 450mh Pentium 2 processor running Windows 98. It is about 2 years old.

Thanks for whatever help I get.

I found the file u106b25.zip on the amdworld website and downloaded but my PSI mass storage controller doesn't recognize it as the driver, even when directed to look in the file that where it lives. I guess my controller needs a different driver. Also, my computer runs on a Pentium 3 (not 2 as I said above)

I agree with several here, I will never buy an ASUS mobo again because of the A7V. I have sent email after email, no reesponse. I have tried calling. Etc etc.

There site sucks. It's a confusing, unorganized tangle. Their A7V manual leaves out critical info. Yet Leo Leport on Screensavers was hyping the A7V!

I'm getting very similar problems to you guys. In my Other devices category, My PCI Mass Storage Controller had a yellow exclamation next to it, and stated that there were no drivers loaded for that device. So I went to Gateway techsupport and they said to remove it, reboot, and windows would reinstall the driver. Hah! So now I'm looking for an appropriate driver. The problem is, I have a different motherboard. Here are my system's specs:

Athlon 1 GHz
Jabil (Kadoka) motherboard
Running Windows ME

I tried looking for drivers on Jabil's website... they dont even have a support section. I went back to Gateway techsupport and they had me download some drivers for my motherboard... Im kinda scared to use them though. Well, we'll se what happens.

I have the same problem as ChainMael. I can remove the PCI Mass Controller from the Device Manager menu and reboot, but the computer doesn't find a driver either on the hard disc, or the Windows 98 program disc that came with the computer (or several others I've tried). I don't know what kind of motherboard I have, so I don't know where to start looking (Computer is a Dell Dimension).

SAME problem here. Just bought an ASUS A7V266-E w/ 512MB DDR, Athlon XP 2000+. Was running WinMe, but after upgrade, had to resort to Win98SE. Continually get the 'PCI Mass Storage Device' error/cannot find driver message and system tends to freeze up randomly and seems very unstable. I am running 2 WDC 30GB HDD in the Promise IDE slots using ATA100/Ultra100. They are detected fine. But, because of the elusive PCI Mass Storage Device driver not being found despite downloading every possible driver and solution I could get my hands on, both HDD are running in MS-DOS compatibility mode. I did not get a CD from ASUS with drivers, but downloaded them from their web site(s). If someone could send me a driver file (or direct me in the right direction to download it for myself) that has solved this very annoying problem for them, I would be VERY appreciative!
