Panasonic do not provide a software driver for downloading tape to PC for editing - Win98SE and onwards has the necessary drivers built in for firewire connection: you need a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable AND firewire card installed on your PC. Else use a USB connection - the advantage of the firewire connection is that you are able to control the camcorder via the PC when transferring material either way.
You will, however, require some video editing software: Nero/Pinnacle Studio or whatever. This you'll have to buy!!!
