OS: Windows ME
CPU/Ram: Intel Celeron 1Ghz
Model/Manufacturer: Aristo M754LMR+

Hello everyone! I hope I can get some answers from you, as no one else seems to be able to help me. I'm trying to get an old pc working without destroying all the files that there is. It is an Aristo M754LMR+ mainboard that has integrated graphics, network, sound etc, and the operating system is Windows ME. First problem was that there where no icons in Control Panel and it wasn't possible to search for files in "file manager" as it opened up internet explorer. Also, there was no sound coming and it didn't find any soundboard.
Installing Windows ME on top of the old OS repaired the icons problem and also made it possible to search for files again, but still no sound, and a new problem was that it only finds a Standard VGA display card.
I have downloaded all drivers I have found and tried to install them, both automatically and also forced, but still every time that I start up Windows ME it says that there is something wrong with the display settings and I have to go trough the hardware setup again, and still I am not able to adjust color or resolution. Once I heard sound from the speakers, so the soundcard is working, and I have seen a higher resolution before installing Windows ME again, so that should be working also. Had problems with network also, but installing SiS900 driver solved that one. How should I continue? Should I remove all drivers and try to install them again in another order? What is the "Ali M1621 PCI to AGP controller that PnP finds every time?

Hope someone can help me on this quest.

The obvious place to get drivers is from the Motherboard Manufacturer:

You need the first and third one:

http://www.pcchips.com.tw/PCCWebSit...

Ali changed to Uli then taken over by nVidia and the download page is here:

Thank You WebsWonder,
but I have already done that without luck, and now I tried it again, and still no luck. I think that I need some kind of chipset driver for the motherboard to run first, then the hardware drivers. If I install the Uli driver, Windows ME will not start, an error message about cmdninst.exe appears, and only after removing alipcimp.pci I can start the PC up again.

cmdninst.exe is releated to CMedia Sound Chip.

I persoanlly would remvoe all the drivers thru both Add/Remove Software and Device Manager in SAFE MODE. Reboot and cancel any Windows attempts to ask for drivers.

Yes you need to install the ALi Chipset Drivers from the nVidia link first, would use the 213 package.

I would leave the sound to last....

If that fails it may be time to undertake a repair install this will remvoe updates etcetc but data should be intactus.

OK! Now I have tried that again, and also tested the integrated driver 2.05 (and 2.13, and 2.20) but every time the computer starts up again, I have the same problem so appearently a repair install should be done. Do you mean with "repair install" that I install Windows ME on top of the same Windows folder or do you mean something else? I have done this almost 10 times allready, but will try it again if it can help...

Hello again!

I finally managed to find a copy of the "Systemboard" CD for the Aristo M754LMR+ (or PC CHIPS M754LMR+) containing all drivers and software needed for this board. The CD is an autostart cd, installing all needed software for the mainboard. But it didn't help on this one, as I found out that the registers where f*cked up. I then renamed the Windows folder into something else, installed Windows in a new folder (tried to install on top of the old folder first, but that didn't help as the registers still where wrong) and then installed the system board drivers from the CD. Everything started up great, and then I installed some small programs that I needed, as Adobe and so on, and copied all needed folders from the old Windows folder. Tested that everything was ok, and removed the old windows folder and now the computer is as new. Of course, if there had been some programs installed in the old Windows ME, those would have needed to been installed again, but luckily this wasn't the case with this computer, only office and adobe and some printer and camera drivers where needed.

I took a copy of the drivers CD, but I don't know where to upload it so that others can use it.
