Okay, I recently built a PC from scratch, and I didn't run into any issues whatsoever with most of the process. I'm running an AMD Duron 800 MHZ, with AMD board, and everything's cool with that. I have 2 drives installed, 20 Gig Western Digital HDD as Primary Master, and Samsung CDR/RW SW-224B Drive as my Secondary Master.

Okay, here's where things take a turn for the weird. When I first installed Windows XP, the OS recognized and installed everything but my printer driver correctly. The Samsung CDR/RW SW-224B Drive was "installed correctly," and "working properly," and it did appear to be, as I popped my Microsoft Office XP software in, and installed Microsoft Word and Outlook without a hitch at all.

Oddly enough though, whenever I attempted to use the Easy CD Creator software that came bundled with the drive, XP reported that there were no CDR/RW drives available to use. On a weirder note, sometimes normal CD's wouldn’t even load correctly, and XP game me a "No device found" message. Very frustrating indeed! It's like my O/S had a mind of its own.

I've already tried reinstalling the XP drivers, and installing the drivers that came with the drive, but nothing worked, and I still couldn't burn software. It's like the Drive kept changing from a normal CD-ROM to a CD-R/RW, and back -- repeatedly.

What does this sound like, bad drivers, or what? I noticed a few flash upgrades, but I don’t know if that will hurt/help the issue. Samsungs Tech support sucks in a big way, and their site is very poorly setup and designed. I bought this drive because it was relatively inexpensive, but I guess this shows that you get what you pay for. I though Samsung was a brand name that was reliable, but obviously I'm mistaken.

If ANYONE can help me with this problem, feel free to e-mail me or reply. Any replies are greatly appreciated. I need to see if I can find an answer before 7 days are up so that I can return the POS if necessary.

The problem is that there appears to be no driver available either with Windows XP (which is what I am running) or on the Samsung site. Samsung tech support were no help for me either. Windows just thinks it's a CD-ROM, not a CD/RW.
