Tips & Tricks for Your Old Fashioned Devices
============================================I. TURN OFF driver ckecking of "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo".
--------------By default everytime you install device driver & software, Windows XP check every file for the digital signature from Microsoft (Hardware and software products displaying the "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo") indicating that the product was well tested for compatibility with Windows XP and has not been altered since testing.
For the best performance, Microsoft recommends using hardware products that display the "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo" on the external packaging and on the device itself.
Some Hardware manufacture (exp. old printer, old scanner, etc.) did not support the new device driver for Windows-XP, so you can not use it under Windows-XP Operating system (and so it does on Windows 2000).
But you still have the way to use it by slightly trick !!!Here is the trick !!! --> "TURN OFF driver ckecking" of "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo" (or "Designed for Microsoft Windows 2000 logo" if you are using Windows-2000). And then Install your device driver for your old printer, old scanner, etc.
(after that do not TURN ON that OPTION again !).Now, How to Turn it off ??? eazy man.
1. Open Control Panel ( or on your keyboard, just press "Windows-button" and "Pause/Break-button" at the same time; and then jump to step-3)
2. Dooble click SYSTEM-icon.
3. Click "HARDWARE-tab".
4. Dooble click "DRIVER SIGNING" - button.
5. In the new window (Driver Signing Option) click "Ignore - Install the software anyway and don't ask for my approval" and click "OK" and "OK" again. Now the checking has turn off for ever.
6. Close all Panel and start to install your old device driver for your old printer, scanner, etc.
Please Follow your device manual. (you won't see any nag-screen of "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo" or "Designed for Microsoft Windows 2000 logo" checking).
7. Now you can use your old hardware.I have tried this way for my old CANON BJC-5100 printer and old MICROTEK SCANMAKER-4800 scanner on both Windows-XP and Windows-2000. And they all works well, seamlessly, very well, no trouble.!.!.!
Enjoy it !!! Have a nice try. !!!
notes : (see my test printer output and scaner output on the attachment files.
I altered the machine name, just to hide from Mr. Bon 007).

II. Getting an Older Program to Run on Windows XP
--------------------If an older application gives you trouble when running Windows XP, you can set the compatibility properties manually so that the program runs in a different mode, such as Windows 95, or in a different display or resolution setting.
1. Right–click the executable file or the program shortcut to the executable, and then click Properties.
2. Select the "Run this program in compatibility mode check box".
3. From the list, select an operating system that the program runs in comfortably (Windows-95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000,).
4. If necessary, also change the display settings and/or resolution, or disable the Windows XP visual themes.Run the program again when you’re finished changing the settings. Adjust the compatibility settings again if the program is still not running smoothly: a program that’s unhappy on Windows 2000 or XP may flourish on Windows 98 or 95.
Enjoy it !!! Have a nice try.!!!
