Just tried the newest Via 4in1 Hyperion v4.51 last night, thought I would get some performance boost for a change, but boy was I wrong.

So here is what happened:

1. I double click on the Via 4in1 4.51 zip file (some how this time it's only an exe, it used to be you could extract it out)

2. The installation wizard thingy started out at 0 percent, stuck there for like 2 or 3 minutes, then all the sudden jumped to 99% then stuck there for another minute before it went into the setup wizard screen (what the f*** is that?!!!!!)

3. I clicked the Next -> next->next.... blah blah blah then when it's about to install the IDE driver, it says I have to uninstall the IDE driver I have right now, so I said ok, and go with the flow.

4. It then uninstalled my driver then Windows (XP) rebooted fine but I have to go through the painful step 2 all over again

5. This time when I do the normal installation it went thorough fine (thank god) so at the end, it asked me to reboot again, so I did.

6. Now, after the reboot, I went ahead and check the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller to check the VIA Bus Master IDE Controller, but boy what did I find??? the driver date went back to the 2001 (default driver that came with Windows XP)

7. So I went ahead and tried to update the driver myself (under driver tab -> update driver), and I chose to install from a list or specific location), so I installed the IDE driver manually. And you know what it is, I have to restart again.

8. AND!!! This is when my computer is starting to f*** up. the add new hardware wizard dialog poped up, it says it found the new disk controller thingy, and seaching for driver, then it listed it out as "VIA TECHNOLOGY blah blah blah (VIA Techonloy IDE controller thing, don't remember exact name)"

9. The next thing I know, my computer is locked up, mouse wouldn't respond, so I reset my computer, and guess what, computer is messed up, I can go into Windows fine, in fact I can log in, but when the new hardware wizard comes up and found the VIA Techonlogy thingy, my mouse would stop periodically or intermittly, then the computers locks up after about 1 minute.

10. So there's no way for me to back up the stuff on it too, because you know the hardware installation wizard usually runs after you logged in. SO.... is there any way I can fix this problem without reinstalling my OS??

P.S I already tried the repair console's fixboot and repairing the OS, but none of them works, the hardware wizard still comes up and the computer freeze, PLZ PLZ HELP ME!!!!!!!!!

Joe,

Hit F8 when you're rebooting and choose "Last known good configuration". Good luck! ;o)
