I've just fitted a GeForce4 MX420 64mb GPU to replace a GeForce2 card. When I use the 41.09 driver it's OK, but when I install the 52.16 update Windows goes to start then reboots itself - presumably due to a conflict.
Can comeone tell me how to tell wat the conflict is and/or how to resolve it??

Do I need a BIOS update - if so, how do I do that?

Thanks

Are you sure those drivers are for the one model of VC you now have....I will check just to make sure...They are different vendors that use this chip (GeForce4) and many more video cards based on it....

I have a GeForce MX420D, and it works flawless with the drivers it came with...

BIOS? I don't think you need to update the BIOS to update your video card drivers....I would do this:

1. Uninstall old driver for VC
2. Make sure you know the right model for your VC, and if is a certain version, get that down.
3. Locate manufacturers website, and check to see if they offer the new drivers...
4. Check all references for compatibility,
5. Finally, install new clean driver for your card.

Reboot as needed throughout the process....A clean install is always a better choice...

Good Luck

Windows update selected the same driver as I had got from the website....

I've just done a bios update anyway so I'll try again with the driver I have, then investigate further...

Thanks

Tried it every way I can now....still the same problem....very strange....

Problem is I got the card off e-bay from a guy who replaced it so there's no retail packaging with it....just the card
