i've also come across this problem when trying to load the sightCAM PC 100 usb webcam. It worked fine under my old installation of win98, but after i had formated and re-installed the same os it displays the "ntkern.vxd device loader(s)" message, with (Code 2) after it. If anyone can shed any light on this i'd really appreciate it.

I have a similar problem when trying to get my (previously fine)Kodak EZ200 camera to work - an identical message ("ntkern.vxd device loader(s)" message, with (Code 2) after it) - can anyone help?

I can only add my chip to the pile of complaints. i've got an i/o magic USB pc cam, and in the cam properties, i've got the same message.
"the NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver. (Code 2.)"
BTW, i am using the drivers included in the install package. my comp now denies any knowledge of having a cam, except in the device manager, with the lovable yellow "!"
so yah, suggestions are welcome.

Following is provided if you have utilised the USB connection for the SightCAM PC-100 webcam.

Check out your Device Manager and see if you have a question mark against a USB port. If you have then go to it's properties, click on update driver and select from the CD rom provided with your SightCAM for the driver.

This resolved the exact same problem for me on both Win98SE and WinXP.

I had this message this morning. A customer tried to load an epson usb printer and didn't follow the epson instructions. This resulted in message about. I un-installed printer, deleted usb hub and controller in device manager. I then redected the usb controller and hub by clicking refresh, used the drivers of the win98 cd, which were asked for. I then instaled epson printer as instructions from epson say to and surprise surprise it works fine. Hope this helps.

if nothing other solutions work,

ntkern.vxd is somewhere in Win98_48.cab on win98 & Win98_53 ou Win98_54.cab in Win98SE

unpack it manualy in dos session with extract & put it on C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32
VxDs added after Windows installation are found at this place, and, when found there, are used instead of those embedded in VMM32.VxD.

reboot your computer... that's all.

Check the Windows Knowledge Base for info. I had the same problem under Windows 98. I had inadvertently installed drivers from a Win 98 SE CD. Once I figured it out, I replaced the following files:

: WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/DRIVERS/UHCD.SYS
: WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/DRIVERS/USBD.SYS
: WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/DRIVERS/USBHUB.SYS

: with their Windows 98 versions. Everything was fine.

: Hope this helps.

I have also ran accross this problem. I was installing the O/B USB and O/B sound card drivers for a VIA chipset motherboard under Win98. Both drivers were installed but have problems. THe message in the device properties for both devices. Said- NTKERN.VXD could not load device. I do believe that maybe I was using a dif version of windows98 drivers so I will try another version.

After seaching high and low for a solution to this problem, I found that the BIOS on my computer was not up to date. I looked up the manufacturer of the BIOS chip and ordered a new one. I installed it myself and everything is working fine!!! I tried to flash the bios and it didn't solve the problem....I had to have a new BIOS. Note--I bought my PC in 1999.

I am encountering this error with an Armada E500 laptop with a docking station. I get the error listed under System Devices for the ArmadaStation EM docking station. I have tried to restore the NTKERN.VXD file from the CAB's with no luck.
