Check the port of connectivity..

Start > control panel > sound > Go to options > Properties > Select out put device in mixer device tab.
You should also check all setting. Not should mute.

If problem still same then you should update your sound driver.
Go to device manager and select sound right click update.

... advanced> options (tab) click properties "check" recording

... check/tick what you need... then "select" something "other" than "mike" ??

... do you hear anything with headphones?

... if yes run a jack from headphone to mic socket

... not the best method !!

... there must be a setting to (un)check if you hear through headphones
