I have reinstalled my windows 98, didnt' do anything different then before, and lost my sound, sound icon in my system tray and when i put my windows media on or anything else with audio it says sound device not installed. These are the things i have tried to correct the problem: Go into add/remove program click on window setup then multimedia uncheck the audio compression and recorder off, rebooted then go back in again and recheck and reboot, still nothing. Then i went into systems, device manager removed it, rebooted and nothing. Then i reinstalled my software, nothing. I went into multimedia in the control panel, and tried to click on preferred device, its grayed out, in the drop box my via wave device isn't in there. Pls, if anyone else has other ways for me to see if i can get it goin, it would be muchly appreciated. Thank you Roxey

Hello,
My advice is :
Go to C Panel>Add/Remove>Windows Setup,
uncheck Multimedia and give Apply, OK
Have Win98 CD-Rom handy.
Then repeat the previous steps, check back
Multimedia, press Details and check
everything, then give Apply, OKIf this method doesn't work, you suppose to
make sure that your audio card is properly
inserted(you can remove it and reinsert it
again in its slot). Good luck and let me know what's up.Stefan
