Reformatted HD and reinstalled 98se. Cleaned out a lot of junk but now I have no audio.I tried Everest to get the Motherboard Make/Model. Tried driverguide.com and the HP website to get the correct driver. All with no luck. The PC does not have a seperate sound card it's intergrated in the MB. Is there any other way of getting the correct driver. Can someone please help me get my sound back. If someone could steer me in the correct direction you help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Joe

According to the specs it uses a Crystal Audio Chip, therefore would suggest you use the MS-DOS utility from:
http://www.hwinfo.com/
..run from a Boot Floppy not Windows, when you find the model number look here for the download:
http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/drivers/

Thanks for the response hiho,
I found and installed the correct sound driver thanks to you. It's recongized in Device manager but still no sound. Where do you think I should try next. Are there settings or other adjustments I need to make after the driver has been installed?
Thanks again for the help to this point.
Joe

If the sound is recognised in Device Manager then would assume the sound has been muted, you need to check the settings.
There should be a Speaker Icon on the Task Bar next to the clock, right click and OPEN VOLUME CONTROL. I f not shown you need to enable the Icom thru CONTROL PANEL / SOUNDS.....

Thanks again Hiho
The speaker Icon does not appear on the Task Bar.
I went to control panel >> sound but nothing jumped out at me as to how to enable it.
Can you help?
I feel we're getting real close.
Thanks,
Joe

Hiho,
This might help you help me.
In control panel >> sound, when I click on the specific sounds to hear them, the Preview "Play" button stays grayed out.
I noticed in other windows 98 PC's that when a sound is selected the Preview "Play" button is enabled and a click gives you the preview.
Maybe the problem is somewhere in this area.
Thanks again,
Joe

CONTROL PANEL - MULTIMEDIA
Is the sound device listed here as the preferred device? Is the box ticked for show voulme control on the task bar?

In the perferred drop down it states "No Playback Devices" and is grayed out. The "show volume control on task bar" box is checked but is also grayed out. I can't check or uncheck the box. Basically I can not do anything with the audio tab of Multimedia. Is the a setting that I need to change?
Thanks again and again,
Joe

Did you ever solve your "no sound" problem? I have the same problem with my HP 6535 ever since having it upgraded from Win 1998 to 2000P.
