Comment:

this has been about a week since i have installed a fresh copy of windows sp2.
i had lost my motherboard cd and therefore i went to the intel site and it scanned my system and gave me graphics driver which is working good.then i installed realtek sound driver(from diffrent sites in context to my sound card)but without any result ,no sound is coming out of my speakers .my speakers are usb type and when i connect them nothing happens.the system tray is not showing any sound symbol.one thing more whenever my system starts it shows found new hardware i.e MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER and then it searches FOR DRIVERS BUT all in vain. my sound card is perhaps realtek 8101L as written on a black plate on motherboard.i am helpless now ,i have tried everything i could.

Reply:

try windows/microsoft update
they may detect your soundcard
you may not have the correct sound drivers installed
also make sure it is not muted
go to control panel/sounds and audio devices
and check settings
good luck

under control pannel > sound and audio devices > it shows no audio device.
plzz provide any link from where my sound card could be detected.
earlier when i had my motherboard cd i used to install REALTEK SOUND DRIVER and my sound worked good.

yesterday i downloaded a programme named driver detector , it scanned my system and showed no driver under Multimedia Audio Controller.
one more thing when i try to play windows sounds in sounds and audio devices > under sounds tab it says "WINDOWS CANNOT PLAY THE SOUND YOUR SOUND CARD MAY BE IN USE".

today i downloaded the realtek AC'97 driver and installed it from realtek website.i installed the driver and restarted the system.
found new hardware came in such steps >
-multimedia audio driver > realtek AC'97 > searching for drivers > it found the required driver > copying files and everything went good but atlast it showed - problem with realtek AC'97 with a yellow mark before it.

in device manager in sounds & audio devices it shows "DEVICE CANNOT START : ERROR CODE =10"
