I formatted this ancient P.O.S and popped in the boot disk but couldn't load the cd rom drivers, the cdrom i have is a samsung scr 3231 not sure how to get the cd-rom working so that I can proceed to throw win98 back on this computer Im working on

I have tried several different bootdisks
and all come up with the same error about not being able to install the oak technology cd rom..

Any help would be appreciated

I wasn't very detailed in my first call for help, im getting the mscd001 drivers not found after install, its an old compaq deskpro 590. The cd-rom is a Samsung SCR-590 I had found dos drivers for it, and tried changing the autoexec.bat & config.sys files to include the appropriate drivers, still no luck. I can't even get into the BIOS settings to boot from CD first & pray that the win 98 cd is bootable.

I called HP just to see if they would give me a couple of suggestions and to confirm that its F10 to get to the bios from the Compaq Deskpro 590. I kinda filled him in as to what the issue is and he told me that I need a compaq recovery disc to load the drivers for the cd-rom.

Something tells me there is another route I can take to install them manually but I am not sure how to proceed as I have had no luck.

Its a retarded situation I got myself into, my friend bought this compaq piece of crap for a $100 hahaha (RIP OFF) The guy won't give her money back, windows was corrupted! I didn't know that cuz the computer was turned on already when I started to install the drivers for the ethernet card. I got that done, and rebooted thats when I noticed all the missing .dll's etc, I couldn't pull up winipcfg so I figured it would nothing to format and reload windows, done it a million times before, just never with a compaq didn't really think anything of it.

So if anyone out there has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!

The Compaq should have boot from CD Capability.......... therefore as W98 and later CD's are bootable, as well as various flavours of Linux, there should be no need to install MS-DOS/CD Drivers.
