Subject: Need SETUPX DLL for Win 2K Pro

Hello,
If anyone might be familiar with the "ATI All-in-Wonder" line of video cards, I have one of them, 8MB AGP 2x installed. Never had really any problem with it. But what I am trying to do is install some 3rd-party software (the "ATI Rage Pro Tweaker" utility which installs some add-on overclocking software and customization tabs into Device Settings, etc..), and the installer keeps calling for a particular DLL which doesn't seem to be included in their archive (nor on my system by default), but which the Installer program must keep assuming is already resident in my System folder. It's not anywhere on my NTFS Partition! hehe
I'm running Windows 2K Pro, with my ATI card I mentioned, and the Installer just quits because it says it can't find SETUPX.dll.
I've found that same DLL in my Win98 SE system folder, but I didn't think it would be a smart idea to mix-n-match DLLs from just any OS ... and was hoping there was a version of SETUPX.DLL somewhere that was written EXPLICITLY for Windows 2000 ?
Would anyone know how I could find out about it? Shortly I will be checking out the author's website (he is the same guy at StarDock who authored WindowBlinds) ...
Could I just use the version from my Win98 SE system folder, or no? But any other suggestions I would sincerely appreciate! :-) Thanks in advance...

I too am having this problem on win2k, will be forced to move to another card if there is no resolution.

Someone at ATI should probably know of this problem, or do they just not test their drivers at all?

SETUPX.DLL is a Windows 9x file, so it wouldn't normally appear on an NT system.
I don't know exactly what it does (It's connected with adding/removing Windows components)but you can find it in the original Windows 95 or 98 Cab files - look in Precopy1.cab or Precopy2.cab.

Hope that helps!

what setupx.dll does is links your third party softwhere in my case a intelogis passport adapter to your registry and as matt said it is not usualy found on an nt system like nt4 or 2000 or xp, but there is a file in your windows system dir setup.dll if you copy that to a temp folder and rename it setupx.dll and copy iy back to your windows\system folder your thirdparty softwhere should work it worked in my case

Encountered a similar problem in Windows XP Pro. A downloaded version of setupx.dll (of which there seem to be many of varying file sizes) removed the error message, but the install program failed anyway.

I worked around this by extracting all files to a temporary folder, then right clicking on the RAGEPRO setup information file (i.e. RAGEPRO.INF) and choosing install.

When I access the Display properties and click Advanced, there is now the additional option for the Rage Pro Tweaker.

Happy tweaking,

- Thomas
