need help with sound on my comp

my brother recently rebooted the computer and wiped everything and we are putting everything need bak on, but for some reason our sound doesnt work, the speakers and plugged in and they buzz. but on the computer i dont have a volume bar in which i can turn the sound up. i have been to control panel and then to sound but it is sound weird sounds for msn and stuff like that. i have also downloaded a few drivers, but i dont know if they are the correct ones. need help, its starting to annoying me

You can control your volume by clicking >> start >> programs >>accessories >> entertainment >> volume control.

For the weird sound, try to re-install the directx.

hey i click on the volume control and it didnt load, so i dont know wat is going on there
