I have lost my 2 drives. The DVD and CD/R are gone. The drive letter used to be D: and E: now they are nowhere to be found. If I insert a disk the drive light comes on the disk spins and that is it. I have tried a few things but I have no idea where to start??

You list the OS as win98 and XP , same problem in both OS's ? In win98 check for MSDos compatablity mode, open control panal- system-performance- is any thing said about MSDOS compat. mode ? mybe same place for win XP ? did you add or remove any software or hardware?
I would sugest for this problem repost in the Win98 or XP forum , more people will help you there. This forum is mostly for driver software , dll's not for hdds or cd's.
