I have been trying to install direct x 9 (currently have x8) into my comp (2.53 p4, 512 mb, 80 g, gf4 mx 440 [slow as heck]), but keep getting the message that the driver has not passed window's logo test and would stop installation at that point. I tried going to control panel/system/hardware/driversigning and clicked on a tab ignore (install the software anyway and don't ask for my approval) and again tried installing x 9, but still got the original message. Shouldn't there be a prompt that should ask if I want to install anyway? Everytime I try to install, I do not get this prompt and the setup exits. I ran dxdiag and saw this note on the display tab
The file nv4_disp.dll is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a signed driver from the manufacturer of the hardware device.
Which driver is this note referring to? Where do I go (website) for said signed driver? I got my program setup for x9 by updating through windows, and it vexes me that they said that it doesn't want to install something downloaded from its site.
I appreciate any helpful ideas or suggestions. Thanks

Sounds like you have an NVidia Display Adapter installed.
Try downloading the latest driver from their site and giving DX9 another go. . .
Good Luck . . .

Thank you for replying back. I did the nvidia driver upgrade and tried installing dx but still recieved the same prompt (and stopped installing). Any other suggestions? Thanks

Hi,
Hmmmmmm......Ok When you install new drivers, as you say if there is NO digital signature from Micro$haft, you will/should get a warning. NVIDIA will probably not bother getting their drivers tested by M$ as it costs so much, and means so little, particularly as they release a new set of drivers every 2-4 months!
So....
What should happen - doesn't. This naturally leads us to eradicat the drivers as being the problem. So the problem must be your installation of Windozes . . MAYBE. . .The problem could also be a Virus! Try downloading the "Stinger.exe" from Mcafee's web site, or go to the Norton/Symantec and use their on line security scan . .
If you have downloaded the full distributable version of DX9 try an install in safe mode. If not, Go download it now, you will find it on th Micro$haft web site. . .
Nothing else springs to mind at the moment . . Let us know...
Good Luck . . .
:o)

Again thank you for replying. I did what was recommended and (sadly) even in safe mode, received the original "will not install message." This was done after running stinger.exe which found no virus. I'm sure that other people need your help more guys and I really do feel bad about asking for help, but I would really appreciate anything that can help me out. Thanks for the consideration.

Well, I have had a skim through the Micro$haft Knkowledge Base . . There was nothing that I could see which could be related to this issue . . .
The ultimate answer would be to do a full re-install . . Not such good news . .
:o(

Thank you for trying to help me on this problem (really appreciate it =D ). I will do just that (reinstall). Keep up the good work here.
