Comment:

Cannot play any games that require Direct3D acceleration because I am unable to activate it. Diagnostics say that I have an uncertified nv4_disp.dll driver but I cannot find a certified one. Have downloaded latest drivers for my NVidia GeForce2 MX and the latest directX. I use Windows 2000 professional and I am desperately looking for a solution.

Does there seem to be a common link here? Namely the Nvidia 23.11 driver. Has anyone had any joy using an earlier driver?

Unfortunatly do not use Nvidia drivers 23.11. They cause more problems than they solve. Download the older versions and see what happens

This is a known issue.

Lots of people used 21.83 which worked for them fine including myself. I am too one of the victims of using 23.11 and up getting errors.

I am running XP Pro and using the ASUStek A7700 AGP witht he NVidia Geforce 2 GTS.

Upon initial installation, I downloaded the lasted drivers available (Detonater)

I have had no problems running games like: Return to Castle Wolfenstien and Deus Ex.

I hate to even post this, but if the latest drivers from www.nvidia.com are not resolving the issue. You may want to look into possible hardware problems with the AGP card or (as mentioned earlier) chipset incompatabilities on the motherboard.

The 2.3.1.2 drivers don't fix this issue.

I've read that this error message occurs when you install the NVidia drivers overtop of the Windows drivers= http://cedric.net/windowsxp/

You need to uninstall the old drivers and reboot and install the new drivers (preferably 21.83 *WQHL drivers from Nvidia's driver archive= http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=pg_20010907751234 )

Welp, I've tried:

VIA 4 in 1 drivers -- no luck.

23.11 nvidia drivers -- deffinetly no luck.

21.83 nvidia drivers -- no luck.

nforceWinXP UDPv1.1 (what the heck) -- noluck

AMDdrv pack 130 -- no frikkin luck.

a $200 video card, and alls we can do it seems is wait. But my question is will there ever be a fix or is it forever incompatable?

For WinXP people who get the crash and then get the serious error stuff. Download this Windows XP patch which fixes the serious error recovery error on every reboot.

I noticed that after putting this patch on. I decided to reload 23.12 drivers(from 21.83) and then the computer decides not to give me nvidia crash anymore. All cured! This patch was released today from MS. Try it out and see if it works for you.

Hello all you problem havers/solvers/hopefuls

I'm a problemhaver -

look this is really annoying this is the scene:
Had AVP2 running fine on my win2k and Me OS, then I had to resort the harddrives and thus had to reinstall win 2k -- alls well except that AVP2 gives very distorted graphics (big blocks of s*&$) this is during gameplay.
Yes its the nv4_disp culprit. But why the hell did it run nicely b4??????????

Any way I've tried to simulate the last setup when it was running properly. this involved taking out the new geforce3 and replacing the old v550 (diamond) and to my surprise that did not detect the 3D whatits and AVP2 did not run at all. Despite this I carried on and installed the geforce3 again and still no hope!?

This is getting annoying. tried the above but the latest MS patch does not run on win2k.

So finally I had to yellout to u guys.
sys spec:
P2, gainward ti200 gef3, dxr3 (thought it may have been this, but I disabled it with no different result), directX latest from all sorts of sources), And that nv4_disp.dll driver is signed according to gainward but not according to win2k!!!!!

guess this is the same probelm that you lot are getting...
mmmmmmmmmmmmm
Jar

(GEFORCE2 GTS)

The 27.42 and 27.50 drivers have kept WinXP from crashing, thank god. Unfortunately not a single 3D application will run. Anything that uses 3D will simply exit, and oddly, Snood (2D) makes my XP completely freeze.

Just to let you all Know Its NOT a via chipset or nvidia card issue its a out of range memory loop caused by DIRECT X 8.1

there is a TEST SERVICE DRIVER fom viaarena.com its a beta driver but it shuts off the memory thats out of range that causes the error

Anyone have a fix for Win2K Server?

I'm still getting the following:

The file nv4_disp.dll is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a signed driver from the manufacturer of the hardware device.

And when running the diagnostics, I get:

Direct3D test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x887602eb (error code)

I found the simple but temporary fix for that..should work on most computers with driver 21.83 or simillar until Nvidia will come up with the fixed drivers.

right click on desktop
than settings
than advanced
than troubleshoot
than switch hardware acc to none
and uncheck "enable write combining"

that's it, merry xmas :)

tested on:
dual xeon 2X 1.7Ghz
Iwill DX400sn
intel 860 chipset
visiontek Ti500
