I have a dos boot disk (running pc dos) and I need it to load the dvd driver so I can access it in dos.
The dvd drive is a: TSST TS-L462D 24x Slim CDRW/DVD
TSST=(Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology)I've tried the usual in autoexec.bat
"DEVICEHIGH=A:\OAKCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD001"
and in config.sys:
"A:\MSCDEX.exe /D:MSCD001 /L:D"Which returns "No drives found, aborting installation" when the floppy boots..
(This floppy works for other pcs I've tried but not this new dvd combo drive)
I'm thinking I need a specific dos driver but have no clue where to get it.. Dell doesn't list one for that drive and searching in google has only led to dead ends.
Does anyone know where I can find one?

Hopefully that's just mis-typed, as MSCDEX belongs in autoexec.bat (and the actual driver in config.sys)
The drive is listed as 'PATA' (which is IDE) so the generic driver should work - - are you certain the drive is in good order (has it worked in Windows?)
fwiw - the Samsung driver is sscdrom.sys, available here - don't know if that'll make a difference
afaik, DOS considers all optical drives as "CDs"

Yes, sorry jboy I have the config.sys and autoexec.bat entries listed above backwards. Its just a typo as they are listed correctly on the cd and floppy I made however.
Those links to sscdrom.sys led to
versions M1.06 and M2.31.I tested them both, copying them one at a time to my test floppy which contains the config.sys line:
DEVICE=A:\SSCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD001
autoexec.bat line:
A:\MSCDEX.exe /D:MSCD001 /L:DUnfortunately it turns out both drivers give the same error as stated in my first post. I checked the dvdrom drive and it works fine.. I also get the same error on another optiplex 745 which has the same combo drive (so the drive isn't bad).
However from your comment I looked and now realize its not IDE, its serial (SATA).. Doing a search in google for sata dos driver led me to:
http://marktsai0316.googlepages.com...And this turned out to be the silver bullet (its detected in dos now, it works finally)!
Thanks for your help. :)

Ok, that explains it then - the generics are for IDE only, and will naturally give you 'drive not found' if you're running something else
I must've pulled up the wrong page when I looked up the specs (oops)
Glad you've gotten it sorted
