OS: WIndows XP professional
CPU/Ram: 1GB
Comment:
Hi,
I have formatted my hard disk recently and re-installed OS.
I have 1 CD-ROM and 1- R\W ROM devices in my CPU.
Now only CD-R\W ROM is only identified by the system. The icon for CD-ROM is not appearing, and it is even not recognising the CD placed in CD-ROM. When I tried to re-install the drivers from my mother board, it is saying MSCDEX.EXE not found in DOS path.

"MSCDEX.EXE not found in DOS path"

That is for MS-DOS, you have no MS-DOS, and XP does not need Optical Drive Drivers installed. You have a hardware problem not a driver one....

You stated you have one optical drive that is working. Did you then install the MBoard chipset drivers?

I have installed all the relevant drivers from MotherBoard CD.
Both the CD and CD-RW used to work before i format my system. SO this should only be a s/w or driver issue.
Please help me resolve this.

No, That is an assembled system.
In
LITE-ON CD-RW SOHR 5238S DVD/CD-ROM is active, but
HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8521B DVD/CD-ROM
is not there. (this is the system detail in my system, before format.)
I will update more system details soon.

One more difference is before I have 128 bit SD RAM. and now using 1GB DDR RAM.

I suspect that when upgrading the Memory you have disturbed the cabling to that optical drive. Shutdown, unplug the computer, take proper static precautions and then reseat ALL cables, etc.
