There are many ways, here two

1) Right click on the desktop then Properties/Settings/Advanced/Card/Properties/Drivers and you will see if they are certified.

2) At the system prompt type DxDiag, that starts the DirectX diagnostic tool to test your Video Card. Follow all the steps in sequence and you are reported if the drivers are not certified (among other interesting things).

There are other ways, but I leave the job to explain them to some other guy.

And NO... there is no need you run MS certified drivers if they work fine.

I downloaded from Microsoft Site NVidia drivers that messed up my video card. Since downloading from the NVidia site a non WHQL driver my video card is a charme (and Win XP absolutely stable).
