i sent this message using XP Pro and Motorola SM56 PCI .I got the driver from www.puretek.com.tw.You can try your luck there.Just ignore the incompatible warning during installation.

Go here :http://ewww.motorola.com/collateral/SM56_DRIVERS.html and download the windows2000 drivers for the SM56 Software Modem (Data/Fax) (not the Speakerphone modem). The download link says : build 84.40 and the file is : W2K_DF_84.40_1OF1.exe This driver works fine on Xp Pro, but it disables the speakerphone function (I never use it anyway!). Enjoy!

Motorola exited software modem business. Effective immediately, Motorola is discontinuing all soft modem products and future development
Read the page on http://e-www.motorola.com/webapp/sps/site/taxonomy.jsp?nodeId=01M0yyK3NVV for more details. The Windows 2000 driver should be your best bet. Any older drivers will only work on a clean Windows XP setup, NOT A UPGRADE!!!

To everyone having problems with Motorola SM56 and Windows XP.
This is the URL for the drivers. Not for XP but for Windows 2000. But they work fine for XP to. http://e-www.motorola.com/collateral/SM56_DRIVERS.html.
It's easy to install the drivers but after that XP sometimes shows an Error 692 (It still can't find the modem). Solution: go to the Motorola Modem Icon in your System Tray (in the right corner) and change the Country settings to USA. After that it all works fine.
