I have the same problem. I have a GA-8IDML series Intel 845 AGPset ..P4 Titan Series motherboard. I Reconfigured the system ( Win98-SE) but it still cannot find the drivers. Does anyone know where the drivers are or where I can download them and why the system is not picking up this device?

I am getting this message to. When I go to the device manager in Win 98 it is in other devices. The computer is a Compaq Presario 5000. Model Number 5BW250. I have tried to reload the operating system, but I get the same thing. I have also tried to flash the bios, but it didn't work either. Compaq does not have a driver for it on their web site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brent

heh, same here guys... I have a toshiba from peoplepc. Both of them bl0w nutz too. Toshiba wrote their restore cd wrong. Therefore I had to fdisk, format and install 98 on my own and low and behold NO drivers were reinstalled. Finally after searching the net for a few hours I got all but this one driver... oh yea, toshiba also password protected the zip files on the restore cd so I can't get the driver from there instead. What a nice gesture eh?

I had the same problem bud managed to solve it.
I bought a MSI motherboard with a P4 processor and Intel 845 chipset. After installing windows 98 I had the difficulty of loading a driver for the PCI management bus.
Because I could not find this driver on the Internet I checked out the Intel site. Although they didn’t give it as a solution I updated the chipset software. After that my problem was solved.

HP Diagnostics & Recovery CD Refuse to Run
On the motherboard on these machines, there is a flash EPROM, which contains information about the machine, such as the serial number and software build. This EPROM is unique to each machine, so if the motherboard is replaced then the EPROM needs to be flashed or the Recovery CD and HP Diagnostics will refuse to work.
There is a way round this,
· When you run the Recovery CD it will crash and leave you at a DOS prompt.
· Insert a blank formatted floppy disk into the Floppy Disk Drive.
· Log onto the M: drive and type -
o COPYDISK M:\SUPPORT\TATTOO.IMG B:
This will create a bootable floppy disk to flash the EPROM. This disk will only work on the machine it was created on. When you run it, just follow the onscreen prompts (it will ask you for the Model No, Serial No, etc.).
BIOS Update Utility
Similarly there is an option to create a BIOS Update Utility in case the BIOS on the machine gets corrupted. Follow the same instructions as above, but at the M: prompt type in
COPYDISK M:\SUPPORT\BIOS.IMG B:

Hi,All,
I did have this problem with this "PCI system management bus" last 2 weeks.
After refromatting & reinstalling the wins 98se OS. I still have this problem.
On top of that, the computer keeps detecting a unknown device & a pci VGA device, even after I have installed all the hardware properly.
Really puzzled & confused, Can anyone out there help me out.
Thanks,

I had the same problem. with a Gigabyte 7A-DX
mother board. This problem has to do with the chipset that controlls the functions of the motherboard. I has nothing to do with the cpu manufacturer. Go to the motherboard manufacturers website and find out what its chipset is. My motherboard, for instance, uses a via chip. All I had to do was go to Via's website, (the gigabyte site a !@#$!#$ horrible) and install their "four in one" drivers.

Problem solved. Hope this helps.

Solution for Intel chipsets problems, Go to:
http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/inf.htm
And download newest "Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility", it updates your OS INF so it can handle your chipset. If you have a new UDMA 66/100 controller, then try "Intel® Application Accelerator" Replace "Ultra ATA Storage Driver" with this accelerator. get it here: http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/
Hope that will work for you all.

well, to share the frustration, I moved an existing hard drive with Win 98SE to a new ASUS TUSL2-C, and the same problem cropped up, all drivers reconfigured perfectly, EXCEPT the damn "pci system management bus".
Installing the newest drivers for my chipset (815EP)from Intel did NOT solve the problem, now it just shows in the device screen with a big yellow question mark.

As i said in my earlier postings, you have to use the right INF update files from: http://developer.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/inf.htm (filname for Intel chipset): "infinst_enu.zip" I have to ASUS TUSL2-C and i did a clean install, then when first startup cancel ALL questions an do not restart Windows. Run setup from "infinst_enu.zip" (unzip archive before installing OS). TUSL-C have like many others Intel standard chipset software and it is like the others to old, thats why "pci system management bus" have a question mark on it. "infinst_enu.zip" works for all Windows version exept for Win95 and earlier. If you are not going to install UATA or Acceleration drivers, don't forget to check "DMA" for every disk and cdrom that supports it. If you leave it blank, then your diskactivites will be very slow. Remember don't install or do anything before "infinst_enu.zip" is installed!! If you are going to install more software from ASUS drivers CD then do so, but do not!! install "INF Update Utility for 815 Chipset" in the meny if you have used Intels newer version! It's an older UATA version on this CD but it is not installed from the meny, if you like to use it then download "Ultra ATA Storage Driver" from Intel or "Intel Application Accelerator" NOT both! "Accelerator" is a replace for UATA storage driver and works the same way, but on some systems it may enhance performance. I have tested both versions and they work! If you still have problems then check your bios settings, and maybe remove all cards exept for graphic, then install as above. This solution was tested yesterday on a TUSL-C mobo with Windows 98SE. Feel free to mail me any questions.

I have a Vaio PCG-FX140 that I did a low level format to get rid of Windows ME. Then put Win98se on it.

Mine has the Intel Chipset 4.10.2222A which Intel site says needs the PCI System Management Bus. You can get the driver from Intel if you have Intel's chipset on your computer. [look at Systems Property under the "general" to see if you have Intel Chipset].

You can install the PCI Mgmt. Bus File software driver even if your operating suystem is installed. Download the zipped file and then also save or print the install instructions. [I copied the text and e-mailed to myself].

For example, Win98se needs the chipset inf file, and in the instructions number "9b" Intel says how to install driver when operating system is already installed.

see Intel site for driver:

http://developer.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/inf.htm

see install instructions:

http://developer.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/4301/inf_utility/readme.txt

Note: this stuff is not for the faint of heart. Your system will probably operate alright without this driver installed. some slowdown might be realized, but you might not notice it.

Via 4in1 (except the AGP) solved it. But I will contact Gigabyte anyway and post the reply here, since it seems that GA-XXXX boards usually cause this problem and a fix is not on the CD.

I had the same problem with a Gigabyte 8idx. They actually included the chipset .inf files, but with no instructions on how to extract them.

They were stored as .cat (not .cab) files. From the command line I ran the setup.exe with a -A and -S switch to extract them.

Then I went back to the Device Manager and installed the driver from there. Intel gives fairly good instructions, but you have to read the whole thing or you will miss the extraction details.

Go to the sites that are listed above and download the file suggested. It does work.
