Help! How do I get rid of the question mark and exclamation point in Device Manager for the following Unknown Devices?

System Information report written at: 01/12/2004 03:27:25 PM
[Problem Devices]

Device PNP Device ID Error Code 28
Multimedia Audio Controller PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3058&SUBSYS_760915DD&REV_20\3&61AAA01&0&3D

PCI Simple Communications Controller Error Code 28
28PCI\VEN_1057&DEV_5600&SUBSYS_03001436&REV_00\3&61AAA01&0&58

I looked at some of the questions and answers posted to the site and chose to follow the one about editing the Registry (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q298837&GSSNB=1) with no avail. The instructions seemed to be missing a few steps as posted at the Microsoft site or it was not for the Win2K Registry because I could not find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI subkey when I expanded HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\.

Thanks,
zonian

Well this is a classic example of the which came first dilema. I have three PCI cards (modem, sound and NIC) all three devices are identified correctly and working properly according to Device Manager. I have speakers connected to the computer that work and I am able to get on the internet. I have not tested the modem but it has no alerts in Device Manager. So I think these PCI devices must be built in devices for which I don't have drivers.

Any suggestions on how to find the drivers for the built in items on the motherboard? I did a Google search of the southbridge chipset numbers but found no downloads available.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
zonian

You need to know the manufacturer of the MoBo, if you could download the manual then you could possibly turn off these devices in BIOS............

Hi Zonian!
That registry entry is misprinted..
Actual is :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSetxxx\Enum\PCI\VEN_vendorID&DEV_deviceID&SUBSYS_subsystemID&REV_hardwarerevisionID

In this example ControlSetxxx could be ControlSet001 or ControlSet002 or else.
If this can solve ur problem plz do me a mail.
with best wishes.
