Mandrake & onboard audio

I'm having problems with my onboard sound using linux mandrake 9.2. Theres a really loud hissing when a sound attempts to play. Sometimes, it will play the sound normally, so I'm thinking its have to be a driver. I dual boot with winXP and mandrake, and it only happens in madrake. XP is fine.
My system specs: ecs k7s5a pro (v 5) -- Cmdedia ac97 onboard audio xp2000+ 1024MB pc2700 ram gefore 3 ti200 80gig WD hdd
