looping print spooler

I have on my PC an hp laserjet 5L on my parallel port and run Win XP. To run dos applications from a server and print on my PC, I share the printer and use "net use LPT1; \\computername\printersharename /persistent:yes". This has worked for ages. Lately I installed a new driver for my printer, but now whenever I try and print whether from server or from my PC, the spooler is looping without actually printing. If I remove the net use it works well. I reinstalled the old printer driver but remained with the same problem with "net use" whenever I print. I installed a different printer HP laserjet 4L on LPT1 but the same problem occured. Any ideas please???
