I have an LG 8120 DVD drive and I am also experiencing problems playing dvd's. Playback is sometimes jerky, and a lot of times the drive can't even read regular cd's.

Hi!
First with what program you are using ?
I moved to Windows Xp and installed the PowerDvd4 and it works better then windows 98 with power dvd 3.00

But, you should check out if the dvd reads disc as a regular cd rom, if the problem is only when reading dvd discs then.... you need a better driver, but if it reads ok then it must be the dvd play program you are using i suggest power dvd 4. wich is excellent!!!!!! really.

I have the LG 8160b drive and it worked perfectly under win98 and pwerdvd 3.0.
Under XP the drive works fine, but i can't use powerdvd 3.0 for some reason. Do you think that power dvd 4.0 will work fine and fix these issues?

Hi,

I have the 8160B and XP prof., if i try running a DVD through Windows Media Player (i.e Scarface, Fast & the Furious, etc) it shuts down, if i run it through ATI it does not even read the damn thing! Now when i go into windows explorer and select the E drive it reads: "E\: is inaccessible: Incorrect function". My Tech. buddy tried switching ports and switching around the master/slave cable with the DVD & CD-RW but the same problem occurs, do i need to install a driver? if so where can i get it? I appreciate any and all help.

Thank you. Peace.
Otello.

Hi,

I'm trying to use the LG DVD-ROM DRD-8160B with the RealMagic Hollywood Plus card but I have
problems. When I put my DVD disk into the DVD-ROM, the REALmagic DVD Station Control tells that: NO DISC FOUND. It is strange because I can play this DVD with another DVD player on the same computer. I have tried:
- upgrade the real magic driver and the application to 2.2,
- disable the UDF file system,
- DMA set on,
- another PCI bus,
- another DVD-ROM driver: dvddrv.exe

OS: Win98 HUNGARIAN
DVD movie: Maverick
DVD driver: LG DVD-ROM DRD-8160B Microsoft 5-15-1998
SYS: Pentium II Celeron, 64MB RAM, VIDEO: NVIDIA Vanta/Vanta LT

Please help me!

Regards,
Laszlo

Download this link to check whether your drive has region protection or not.
http://www.visualdomain.net/files/driveinfo21.exe
Then you can flash your LG dvd-rom so that it'll be region-free. I did it and it worked for me. =)
Here's the link with instruction on how to flash your LG DVD ROM 8160B.

Hope this helps.
