I'm using a reliance broadband connection with 128kbps speed at my home pc(intel 915 motherboard,2.66GHz processor,256Mb RAM,40Gb hard disc,on board Realtek LAN).Now everything was fine until yesterday, when I noticed my LAN icon is showing a red cross sign, and displaying message-cable is unplugged, thus I cant surf the net..
I called up the reliance people, they came and verified the connection(e.g boosters, wires etc)and finally said that I'm having some hardware problem.I'v checked my BIOS settings and onboard LAN enabled.I'v also formatted the C-drive to get rid off any threats, but nothing's of much help.can someone suggest anything!!

Why do people format as the first solution to a problem. Its like putting a new engine in a motor car because it needs new spark plugs.

Did you check in device manager that the Interface card is functioning properly.

Some hardware specialist if he starts unplugging RAM to sort out a Network card problem.

Until you get the RAM and power supply plugged in pluged in properly, nothing is going to work.

Once you have the computer booting the only way to check the RAM is to run a memory checker like Memtest 86. You need some pretty expensive equipment to check RAM outside of a computer.
