Comment:

After disconnecting from the web I cannot put my PC into stand-by and get the following screen message:"Your computer cannot hibernate or standby because the HaM WDM Modem Driver cannot enter into low power state". I can go into standby if I have not used the modem first. What if anything can be done? Do I need a modem driver upgrade if one exists? My OS is Windows ME. Thanks.

I have hit problems with the drivers for this modem too! It seems to be okay with the windows 9x drivers but the windows 2000 drivers appear to install okay but don't show a port for the device. If you run the modem diagnostics and try to query the modem it re-boots my machine - anyone got any ideas?

I've found two shortcuts to drivers for an intel ham chipset modem for linux. The first one is the official intel page: http://developer.intel.com/design/modems/support/drivers/r-333-5.htm
and the second is by another guy who wrote a driver thats in alpha testing, try it if u like, its at: http://www.linmodems.org/CLModem-0.3.0.tar.gz
for more info an help on linux an modems try linmodems.org

You can get the latest 4.12 version Ambient driver here:

http://developer.intel.com/design/modems/support/drivers.htm

Works great for me with WinXP Home Edition!

Hi, people!
I'm using the same product as U do. Using the version 3.34, working perfectly in WME OS, but the latest driver release WAS 4.12 - according the intel ambient page - the problem is that when U try to update the driver the system don't recognize it as the most indicated for the product...really don't know why! considering this as the latest release... I wondering to upgrade for XP Professional, even this could cause me an intensive research for new drivers, wich there's no prove to work or not. By the way, is the only soluction for XP users at this time... try it:

Intel 563X ham does not work with xp .None of the available drivers connect at above 33kbps (4.12.0 or 4.19.0)I've tried to get help from all over. Get your bloody finger out Intel! Let me know if any of you have had any joy. Please!

I just bought an Intel Ham modem-i downloaded the drivers from the intel site listed somewhere here. It is not plug and play. Go to phones and modems, remove old modems if any, and add a new one using the drivers you downloaded. Very simple
ANDI-all ham modems work with XP

You can first install Windows 2000, and try to install your modem from there. If it works, you can install Wiows XP over window 2000 as an upgrade. The modem should work fine.

I use AOL 6.0 and it worked fine on my computer until I installed XP Pro. After being required to upgrade to AOL 7, my computer would crash when AOL tried to connect. Several calls to AOL were a waste of time.

After two frustrating days of trying to get my modem working properly after upgrading to XP Pro, the following driver works!

Go to http://developer.intel.com/design/modems/support/drivers.htm and download the ham412win2kxp.exe

And I thot I was the only one who had problems with this piece of crap. Note to people with not-NT-based systems.... this card is evil, and will try to IRQ share, which 98 etc does not do. Very bad. Thanx to the person who listed the XP drivers, I had it running off of 2000 Drivers too.

Hi gang, I'm running XP pro and the modem is preventing the OS from shutting down. I know this cause when I disable the driver it shuts down normally. I downloaded the most recent driver from Intel (v4.12) but it doesn't make a difference. I read soemewhere that this new version was supposed to take care of the problem. Anyone have any ideas. It's not really a big problem just annoying. Thanks,

Ken

I have the intel ham data fax voice modem too. When I did a clean XP Install, it no longer functioned.
I've tried the drivers it came with, and I've already tried the xp driver on this page:
http://developer.intel.com/design/modems/products/md563x.htm

However, when I do, it still doesn't function, and even prevents the operating system from running correctly..

Intel's droppin the ball.
I'm gonna have to buy another modem to see if that'll work.

later

I have two modems using the Intel HaM chipset, and they're both just as s---.

I got an ambient chipset modem running under 98 and it seems ok for 43500 but the manual
sent with it was perfunctory, and seemed to be a generic sheet as the cd with it contained drivers for ambient, conexant and ess ,produced by tsunami. My problem? i cannot get a handset to work on the rear socket of the modem. I have tried reversing the tip and ring to no avail anyone got any ideas??
