I got a Packard Bell with an onboard- soundcard detected by WinME as "Intel 82801AA AC97 Audio Contoller-Sigma Tel Codec", but there is no driver on the recovery-CD!
PLEASE HELP! URGEND!

Try going to the Packard Bell newsgroup:

alt.sys.pc-clone.packardbell

Also, you should post what model of Packard Bell you have. If you can find out the motheboard model, that will narrow down the search.
Have you tried the European PB sites, too ?

Tengo una mother ENCORE 810, con una placa de video Intel 810, y la de sonido dice ALC100. Pero en el Bios dice AC97, quiero saber si es la misma que esta.
De lo contrario, alguien me puede decir cual seria?. Y si lo posee pasarmelo por mail?
Cuando el bios arranca dice:
Intel 810 - 2415 (deviceid) Avance Logic ALC100
Es una placa ITE8712 asi dice abajo. Pero la venden como marca Encore.

hi,

i have win 2000 OS, Intel 810e ( KOB 810e FST chipset from Kobian), motherboard. this has onboard ac 97 audio codec. the codec chip is ALC100P from Avance Logic ( now absorbed by Realtek). i have used the drivers found at the vendor's website ( kobian.com )for the audio codec. but still i dont get sound. please help me get the correct drivers.

Every time on start up it says AC97 audio controller found. Will disable all sound functions or soemthing like that HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This AC'97 on board sound card in Mercury 810e FST mother board cannot be used for yahoo voice chat and other dj mixing softwares like ots juke, bpm studio etc.

please helpme out to solve the problem

try that.
in the first, you have to choose your driver, in the second, just try it !
to disable AC'97 audio controller, you have to go in your BIOS, and disable it !

The problem is not the driver itself, it is the way WinDoze handles it. Win98 is incapable of installing it correctly. I am still wrestling with it for a solution (if I remove the device and reboot or refresh it installs a completely different driver, which leads to a screwball the moment you try to install the correct one - ofttimes it just freezes during the 'updating settings' screen) but methinks if I:
a) disable it in the BIOS
b) remove all trace of the driver AND any others it keeps referring to
c) enable it
d) immediately use the correct driver
it MIGHT work... if it does I'll keep you posted.
