installing drivers manually?

is there anyway to Install a driver completely manually without using harware wizard/device manager?
because i've failed to install my sound driver 2 times
1st time - when i click on the setup.exe i get an error in the middle of the install
2nd time - when i goto the device manager it doesnt recocnize the driver evan when i do a specific path right to the driver
plz plz i've been posting on this site about the same damn thing for days

It depends on how the driver is packaged on the disk - it is usually extracted only during setup so you cannot just point the 'have disk' option to the drivers folder. Best way is to see if you can identify the exact model number of your sound card and then either go to the chipset manufacturer's webite, or to driverguide.com. You should then be able to get just the driver without all the extra software as well.
