after a resh install of XP pro on the HP7845 Pavillion, I have no sound.... BIOS has sound turned on, correct XP driver for the onboard AC sound... still nothing....
Help Me...!!!!!!
will buying a cheap sound card solve my issues...?

Evidently, you havn't installed the chipset driver first or the sound driver didn't install as it should.
Did you get the sound driver off the HP cd or download it from somewhere. HP did not appear to have a sound (or chipset driver) for XP at their site.
Plenty of drivers at HP for win 2K for the 7845 system.
