Hello
Here is the complete solution to install driver for the HP ScanJet 5100C on Windows 2000
(It should work for Windows 98/ME/NT4.0I find it on
http://bizforums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xe422cbaac6dcd5118ff40090279cd0f9,00.htmlAnd I give the links to download the necessary files
___NOTE__
IT IS QUIT DIFFICULT TO DO THIS INSTALLATION !!!Have a nice time (I loose 5 hours to fix the problems and now everythings work good, scanner and printer)
All lines start with _ are mine*******
The instructions on the web site are very
unclear. HP support gave me some info plus
I found one other fix was needed.
I got this all to work on Windows 2000 Server
(technically unsupported, but hey it works). You need two downloads:
sj269en.exe from the HP web site
_From http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/c5197a_swen.html
_(choose your language, in my case french, so download the update file, his name is sj269fra.exe)
Epst22k.zip from www.scmmicrosystems.com
_From http://www.scmmicrosystems.com/downloads.html?PID=16&s1=8&s2=63
_(choose for your system at page bottom w2k, just above win 98/ME/NT 4.0)AND Download also the software HP PrecisionScan (HP Scanning Software, numérisation)
_From ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/software/
_french sj263fr.exe (9.54 Mo), english sj263en.exe (17.2 Mo), and other language sj263??.exeStep 1
Run the sj269en.exe and unpack to C:\patch
Unzip the Epstw2k.zip into C:\patch (this will replace one file
from the previous extract).Step 2
Unplug the scanner and install the HP Scanning Software.
DO NOT RESTART the machine at this stage - if you do, you'll get a blue
screen of death!Step 3
Run the C:\patch\setup - it will ask for the path to the epsw2k.sys
file (enter C:\patch).
Move all scanjet hpppt*.* files under the installation dir
(typically \SCANJET) into a separate folder - apparently the
hpppt.exe causes problems.Step 4
Restart the machine - should now come up without crashing.
Follow the instructions about enabling interrupts on LPT1.Step 5
Remove the reference to hpppt.exe in the profile startup.
Remove it from the HP scanning software menu.
You may also when logging in, get an extraneous explorer
window popping up - I found this was caused by the following
registry entry:HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\hppt
Remove the reference to hppt and the window no longer appears
after login._If it doesn't work, perhaps you must change settings in your Bios (Parallel port configuration, disabled EPP, change IRQ...??? you must see)
_else I don't know, call HP support...******
Best regards
