How do I reinstall me hard drives

A friend of mine installed me a new hard drive seagate in my computer.I have the old and this one But I can use them.I do not where is the mistake.Whay should I do? Reinstall them,right.?How do I do that

I do believe any time you put a new hard drive in you must go into cmos and either check the hard drive identification or drive parameters depending on how old your system is.

You must make sure that the hard drives jumpers are set #1 master, #2 slave, unless you you are using an 80 wire cable . Then the jumpers should be set to cable select (csl).If the new drive was not partitioned and formatted your computer won't see it. If you are running an operating system on your old drive make sure it is the master thne boot your system. Providing you are using win98, goto my computer and see if it sees your new drive. If it does then just format it.
