Hello all,

I read posts regarding issues with drive types on this forum:
http://www.computing.net/windows31/wwwboard/forum/10744.html
http://www.computing.net/dos/wwwboard/forum/15305.html
and do hope that somebody can help me.

I have been listening to continuous and very annoying beeps from the BIOS of my PC and decided to figure out what the problem is. I have found a "Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Replacement Setup Program" from http://www.bios-info.de/ --> the last program tool in the download list at the end of the webpage, named "setup". When I run it, it displays that:

"Errors have been found during the power on self test in your computer. The errors were:
HARD DISK 1 FAILED INITIALIZATION
Setup will atempt to correct this errors through auto-configuration. Press any key to continue."

When I press a key the setup program lists values for time, date, diskette, etc. and there is also this "Hard Disk 1: Not Installed" entry. But I have to decide what TYPE of HDD1 I have among "Type 1" through "Type 49". "Drive types 48 and 49 are user-definable", according to the Setup Program help.

My hard disk drive is
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9, Model 6Y080L0, 80GB, 7200 RPM, 2MB Cache Buffer, ATA/133 Interface
BUT I could not find the drive type of this HDD in the manufacturer's technical data. I read somewhere that it has 16383 cylinders but I need also values for: Drive Type | (Cylinders) | Heads | Precomp | Zone | Sectors | Megabytes

Can anyone please tell me what drive type to specify? Please help - thank you!

Hi again,
I have found out that my HDD has:

Capacity 81 GB | Cylinder 39236 | Head 16 | Precomp 0 | Land Zone 39235 | Sector 255

BUT now I have another problem: the mentioned Phoenix ROM BIOS tool does not allow to enter more than 4 digits for the Cylinder and Land Zone in order to specify my own Type 48 or 49... :-( Any suggestions?
