My computer became very slow and gradually very problematic, I tried to re-install win XP over the old one but it did not go smoothly, many files were unable to copy. Now the computer is not functioning at all when I start it, I get a message says disk read error.
Finally I bout a new hard drive 80gig and I installed Win XP and everything fine with the hope that I will put the old hard drive (20gig) as a salve and I will be able to retrieve my kids pictures and movies tons of them ALLOT of family pictures but unfortunately the computer was not seeing the 20gig hard drive at all, after several trials, it is now seeing the drive but can not get access to it, I get a message says the disk is corrupted or unreadable.
I tried several of those programs which check the hard drive or regenerate it but no success, may be because of my very limited experience?

PS: before the problem occurred by a week or two I changed the format of the C drive files from FAT32 to NFTS, since my previous OS was WinMe, could it be what cause the problem?

Your help will be greatly appreciated, all what I need is a way to retrieve my kids pictures and movies.
