I've recently reformatted my hard drive (format c: /s) to install a new operating system (Windows ME) but I am unable to get the display settings back to their original state. I have an Intel i740 AGP graphics card and a QDI Brilliant I BX Chipset mainboard.
I've tried a number of drivers (old and new) for the Intel740 graphics card but I can't get beyond low res and 16 colours.
Is there something I should install or a setting I should change in addition to the display driver? I can't seem to make any progress.
Any help would be appreciated.

hey steven l, i am running a intel 740 pci with api induced quality. i had the same problem after installing the card. i could'nt get beyond the 16 color low res. screen either. your problem is going to be your graphics accelerator setting. go to display properties and select performance folder. slide the acc. knob to the left 1 cilck at a time until your able to find maximum allowable acceptance for your card. if your setting is already to the left, then slide it all the way to the right. keep playing, you'll get it. it's not going to be in your driver.

Sammy,
Thanks for your help. I tried the slider thing a few times but I couldn't get any progress. How annoyed was I getting!!?
In the end I tried a total of about five different drivers from various sources (all Intel in origin). None of them worked and most times my computer crashed into Safe Mode.
The answer appears to have been to remove my WinTV card. When I did this, the driver for the video card installed first time. I then reinstalled the WinTV card.
Should I have known this from the start? I didn't realise there could be a conflict in this situation. My sound card and scanner SCSI are now fighting each other for their lives.
Cheers for the advice. I might throw the towel in with these computers!!

Hi,
I've got an intel i740 graphics card and i was wondering if there are any windows me and windows xp drivers for it. If there is please let me know.
Thanks

windows xp has built in drivers for i740 card. Just install windows xp and it will recognise the drivers.

pc pentiumII 350MGH 32RAM

I have Windows Xp and although it recognizes my Intel740 Video adapter it doesn't seem to have the 3d capabilities on Direct 3d that it had on Windows 9x/ME, does anyone knows why is this happening or how to solve it???

I have the same problem. No 3D under WindowsXP. It's only the slave box with dual P3s, but it's nice to have the 3D in case I decide to add it to the LAN and set it up for Quake3.
If anybody works out how to get the 3D working in XP, please drop me an email.

I've got the same problem about the Intel740 + Windows XP + Direct3D.
Luckily I came across these cute Windows 2000 "BETA"?? drivers... that seem to work just perfectly under XP (except for the "warning, not signed" stuff)
http://game.zone.ee/kommentaarid.php?tyyp=driver&id=84
Perhaps some "non-BETA" W2K drivers would make it better... any ideas where to find any?

i740 AGP, Windows XP Pro, build 2600.
I use the driver built into WinXP.
Seems that PC won't go to standby with this video card...
Has anyone found a solution?
NB: this card is no longer supported by Intel.

hi
i reformatted my c: drive and reinstalled win98 software etc, plus the intel driver but now in some game i only see the colour blue but the main menus are full of colour the intro movies are fine , why is this, and how do i solve this,
please help

try latest driver for your mobo chipset. Intel had stopped support for intel 740 chipset. My intel 740 developed problems until win 2000 to win xp (can't get it work with graphics acceleration set to nothing more than none) but it's just fine w/ windows ME. so I guess its the driver support for the os. btw, i have a via chipset.

Oh please if someone can help me... I used win98 and every 3d game worked FINE, but It seems that after installing Windows XP, my i740 video card have lost every 3D capabilities! There´s no way that any of my games use 3d. all of them just ignore it as a 3d card and goes into software rendering mode. I saw i´m not the only one with this problem, so please if someone knows a way of fixing this problem drop me a mail. Thanx a lot.

harry:
did u get a CD of drivers with ure motherboard? i originally got this problem, but then i installed files for the AGP slot itself from the manufacturers CD, and then re-install my drivers. Now i have full function of the card. This might solve ure problem...
Are there any drivers newer than PV4.0 ???

I´M SOOOOOOO HAPPY!!! I FINALLY FOUND A BETA WIN2K DRIVER THAT CAN GIVE BACK THE DIRECT3D CAPABILITIES TO MY I740 VIDEO CARD IN WINDOWS XP!!! Every person with the same problem, fell free to drop me a mail and i´ll send the file. Just ignore the "not signed" warning, install the driver, and smile again (8OD LOL. To check it, run the DXDIAG and see that the direct3d option is now enabled. CYA!

I too have had problems with my graphics card in regards to the XP. I downloaded the beta 2000 file just now, but don't know where to stick the drivers to make this 3D thing work. I have tried everywhere to get some information in regards to getting the 3D option to work under the DirectX's Diagnostic Tool. As most of my games require 3D to work. If there are better files for the i740, then please email with any hints, suggestions and so forth...
Thanks

General note for intel 740 users.
Make sure the chipset drivers are installed before you install the 740 drivers.
I see a lot of problems here concerning not being able to move up in colors or/and resolution.Point is that the OS won't detect the 740 correctly if the AGP-bus driver isn't installed first!

The i740 will work with direct 3d under Windows XP if you install the Windows 2000 driver from Intel. You can try to download it directly at: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/proc/T8Clearance.asp?url=/1964/eng/win2k10.exe
Or go to: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Product_Filter.asp?ProductID=76
Then fill in Windows 2000 for the operating system you want to download drivers for. When you click on the file it will ask you where you want to unzip. Take the default or have an easy to find folder prepared to take the four files. After it unzips, go into device manager an update the driver for the display adapter: select specific location, don't search, and have disk, then point the program to the file where you unzipped the files. After you restart goto run and type dxdiag. The display tab should say that direct3d is enabled.

I have just found this driver from Intel.com, someone posted it in Drivers.com. I have yet to test it out on both my XP Pro and 2000 Pro. I love XP and 2000 for one thing: stable workhorse! I hate them for another thing: no 3D support for i740 and jerky display when using ICQ in XP.

Intel740™ graphics acceleratorhttp://appsr.cps.intel.com/scripts-df/Product_Filter.asp?ProductID=76
Good luck!
