Graphics card driver update ?

When I go to the Windows Update site it list under drivers a driver update for my ATI RADEON 32MB PCI card .My ? is must I uninstall the previous driver , and if I do would I do this B/4 or after the update ? Also I want to update DirectX from 8.0 to 8.1 , the Windows Update site also list this update for me .I remember when I installed 8.0 , after I downloaded the 8.0 version , I then had to go to the Windows/Driver folder and install the download from there .However it appears from the Windows site it downloads and installs ? Is this so , or would it work the same way,download and then I go to the download and install it afterwards. One last ? should I do the DirectX update B/4 or after the Graphics card driver update ! personaly i would remove the hardware from you system devices and reinstall it using the new drivers, then install directx 8.1 AFTER the graphic driver install
